Jobbing Systems Manager currently specialising in Messaging with an emphasis on Exchange. Currently running messaging for a medium sized technology/fuck knows company and hating every minute of it, if they didn't give me so much money and a car for a job I can do standing on my head I'd be out of there like a shot! Slowly migrating from pure technical work to paperwork, which is probably sensible given my age, still planning for a couple of years contracting to fill up my non existent pension pot at some point! Basically according to my bosses I do email...

I spend most of my time managing these days and estimating projects but I still get to play at tech specialist on the more interesting/challenging projects when I choose.

I also have to man manage a team and co-ordinate testing between 3 timezones and cultures but I enjoy it :)

Run a small boatyard on the Norfolk Broads. That makes me Financial Director, Marketing Director, Head of IT, Chief Engineer, Workshop Foreman, Customer Relations Manager, HR Director, and, well any other job title you can think of.

I've got a ton of experience, Motor Vehicle Technician, Retail, Wholesale, then all the boat related malarkey too. I'm quite happy doing what I do, just trying to re-address the work/life balance now after 6 years saving the company from the shitter, we're looking stable and now able to grow.

Im always amazed at how extremely popular boating holidays on the broads have become. In the summer my village is flooded with familys doing just that.

Still work with ladies undies, but not the same ladies undies, and also pots n' pans, sofas and iPads. And...stuff.

I work in IT for a company who basically supply preconfigured equipment. Laptops, Mobiles, Tablets and the like shipped in bulk with preconfigured email and any other applications they want.

We then offer support to said companies. So my day can be anything from rebuilding a Exchange Cluster to configuring a load of shiny new toys.

I have been in the job for 5 years or so and do not have any chance of earning major money there but 95% of the time I enjoy it and I am very comfortable currently.

My current plan is to buy my way out of my mortgage so me and the ex can finally part ways. I am also saving for a trip to Vegas for my 30th after that I really need to look at where I want to go next career wise.

Good job the village is flooded with turkeys during the Winter time else it would be a ghost town.

dude seriously? wow

me i work in a factory making cardboard its basically a wank job with ok money but shit hours, i grew up wanting to join the RAF didnt pan out then decided to do a BTEC in IT at college which i did ok in however fate struck again and i was unable to go any further in my studies ie uni im now stuck in a dead end job with pretty much no more aspirations for my career anymore ive got a family and they mean the world to me. im bitter i know :p but iapart from 2 instances i only have myself to blame for not pursuing a more satisfying career.

ive always had a love of physics and astronomy and would like to believe have a better than average understanding of these two subjects, would love to do something in that vein but at 31 and no chance of attending uni to get a degree its pretty much just a fantasy.

if anyone is still at school and reading this for fucks sake listen to me and get ya fucking heads down and study your little hearts out 50 years is a long time to be in a job u hate.
I'm 32 and just started uni. It's never too late.

Which brings me along nicely to what I do...
I'm a student! (no surprises there). But! I also work for a living. I do part time IT work for the uni, which mainly involves checking all the PCs work in the morning (when I'm on an early shift) making sure printers keep working and have paper, and also helping out students with problems getting into their accounts or onto the wifi network.
I worked in IT before, first as a junior programmer (VB and PHP) and then on the dreaded phones for Dixons group. I decided I wanted some variety in my life though, as it was pretty much all computers before, so now I'm studying English Language and Creative Writing. I chose that as I love writing things, and the language side of it also opens up opportunities in other areas like communicating, teaching and all that sort of thing. I've not really decided what I want to do just yet, I've got about 2 years to make my mind up, but I'm really glad I decided to broaden my horizons a bit.

I second this, nothing wrong with going to uni late, also as a mature student you can more or less pick your uni dependent on the course, I'm going to Southampton which is ranked 14th in the country for 2012, was 7th 2 years ago. Had offers from Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Winchester and Surrey. Almost wish I had applied for Southampton as fith choice now and chose Oxford, Cambridge, Kings etc. but didn't think I had much chance of getting into southampton with no A levels. Hardest part is giving up a decent income to do it, but next year with working part time and grants bursaries etc I'll be taking home more monthly than i was working anyway........ If you can still support your family on like 15k take home (probably same as 18-19k income) then go for it. Better to regret the things you do than regret the things you don't

What's the biggest and best ocean-going live-aboard I could get for 100 grand.

Always wanted to sell my house and fuck off round the world and live on a boat. Like Quincy :)
