Serif'd font on a headline ?!?I'm the graphic designer for a magazine called Mobile News. I'm the only designer that works here, aside from a freelancer who is in a few days per month to work on another magazine we do, so I pretty much do a bit of everything - from liaising with printers (I hate talking to people on the phone or any kind of wrangling over numbers etc, derp), to preparing images for our websites, to designing adverts and babysitting the journalists to make sure they provide copy for the pages in a timely fashion rather than submitting everything on deadline day.
It's a really easy job in truth, I am left to my own devices almost all day every day and the requirements of the job are pretty much below my skill level so I have a bunch of free time which I use to either play around drawing or watching tv shows. The hours are great - 9.30 - 5.30 - and I work 20minutes door to door from work. On the other hand, it's often boring and I know I could command more money elsewhere with my skillset - I earn 21.5k here and while I'm comfortable financially, and only 25, more money would always be welcome . Alongside that, we only get 20 days holiday per year, there's no company pension etc - limitations of working for a small (10 full-time employees, 1 part-time and 2 ad-hoc freelancers).
I'm eager more than anything to not just get too comfortable here. It would be very easy to coast along, find myself 30 and not earning much more money than I am now while having not moved on my skillset at all due to the fact of not working with other designers every day. First world problems, I know, earning good money to do a job I find extremely easy..!
Some examples of my work here:
