Im pretty sure most pro's go to train/live in Korea anyway, don't they?
The Pro gaming scene is actually taken seriously over there.

GSL is meant to be 'global' but since the qualifiers are held in korea it's pretty hard for many foreigners to qualify. Except for the few who are on teams which are prepared to risk paying for them to be sent to korea, or the few random people who combined their holiday to korea with an attempt to qualify :p I think if there was regional qualifiers we would see far more white guys

More and more foreigners are going over every month and a few teams are talking about setting up team houses in korea, but it's not really necessary for someone who is serious about SC2 to go over to korea. In north america they have MLG and in EU we have things like IEM and DreamHack as well as loads of weekly tournaments in both regions. The money is bigger in korea though, and larger companies are interested in sponsorship since esports is a more established thing there.

I need help!
Ive read/watched all the bloody tutorials going :(

Did you guys memorise and perfect a build order to begin with or did you just do it on the fly?

I find I get up against people who do silly things like void ray rushes, and other stuff I just dont expect because Im not good at telling what certain buildings are doing (toss and zerg, anyway).

So, really scouting is the hardest thing, as although I can do basics like create units and scv's etc, whilst scouting, I cant produce buildings effectively.

I thought people in Bronze would be shit, like me, but Ive either been very unlucky or I really am fucking awful! 3 wins (where I raped them) and 14 losses atm, I just dont expect 4 fucking dark templars at the 5 minute mark, so I forget about detection.

Its even got to the point where I dont want to play online until I can guarantee a win, blast this win/loss ration system. :( Im bottom of my bronze league, but there are people above me Im pretty sure I can beat, but I just know Ill be up against 1st in the league.

Its frustrating because Im usually (not being big headed here, really) quite good at anything I put my hand to (apart from cooking, ofc).

Everyone starts like that mate, It's just practice that makes you better. I'm sure you have heard it before but the absolute biggest thing at the lower levels is remember your SCV's and supply depots. Also never queue units up and never let your money get high.

I would suggest learning a standard build and sticking with it for at least 20-30 games. I don't know how terran works but perhaps look at a 3 rax opening, a 1/1/1 opening or a 2 rax early ish expand build. Practice the opening against a hard/very hard AI untill you know it inside out. Once you know it well enough scouting/defending early cheese will be much easier.

At that level I would suggest practising your macro heavily and relying on MMM (marine, marauder, medivac) play. Make sure you get stimpack obviously.

As for scouting, it's a bit weird at the lower levels because people won't actually be using standard timings. Tbh i would say just scan the shit out of their base if you are worried unless you desperately need the mules.

Having said this the biggest way you will improve, without a doubt, is by watching day9's videos. They might seem weird at first but the guy really does know what he's on about.

I'll give you a few games pikeh if I get some free time this week.

Watching the pro videos I don't think I've seen any that don't go for Orbital Command straight away.

Pikeh you just gotta play more, even if its team games rather than 1v1, this way you can learn your race more and learn timings easier. Look at some terran strats for general advice on timings, when I started zerg I would forget overlord's etc but just played more now I do the same thing every game without thinking about it and I'm not a mass gamer. When I start a game I'm like ok baneling rush or macro game, do the usual 9 overlord, 14 pool, 16 hatch or swap it up, I might go hatch first some games so if you got a basic overview you can just change it depending on how you feel, more understanding than memorising.

As for scouting as terran it's pretty good tbh and make sure to deny your opponents overlord into base or watch for observer, assuming you always block your ramp. But put like 1 marine at each xel'naga tower to watch for incoming attacks and then use scans in the main to see tech buildings, you can always fly a viking in and out also.

I think I start off pretty well, remembering SCV's etc, just find it hard to keep it up whilst im micro'ing or attacking etc.

Ive got some basic build orders written down on a pad next to my pc to help me remember, but are they really that strict? Sometimes I would go Orbital asap not wait till 17 for example. I think its probably more strict early game when you know you just gotta pump out decent units, and then you can wing it a bit later in the match.

Build Orders are really just for the first 30-40 supply, you REALLY need to focus on making sure your production is tight. Always be making SCVs/Probes ( try not to queue ).

If you get your economy and worker production timings down you'll be like 10x as good as you are now. I was like oh I don't need to make my worker at 50 minerals, 60 is fine! and a friend was cleaning my clock, once I realised how bad shit like that was and got my production sorted I started wafflestomping him.

You can always go to www.teamliquid.net and look on the right for the stream list to find a terran to watch. Just watch his timings and see what he progresses too, like if he goes fast orbital for a mass marine push or 2 gas quick for mech build/banshee etc then try some of it out on ladder. Also get used to hotkeys if you don't already as it speeds up your play and makes you more efficent.

Thanks for the advice dudecakes.

Its interesting when watching pro replays with commentary, just how much they value every single unit, and they are totally right to.
Like, in the 2nd dreamhack final game, Naama loses the banshee that hes just rushed out a cloak for, so thats theoretically 200/200 and the price of a banshee, AND the quick techlab on starport thats in reality, just gone to waste, as MaNa has a good answer to that already. All right, banshee are awesome throughout the game, and its probably not the best example, but interesting nonetheless.

Thats where Micro comes in to play, then. Valuing every single unit that you produce and not just throwing 10 marines against a collosus, as those units could have been used for something else that would work better.

Hmmm.
Stupid bloody game, you need to watch more youtube videos than playing the game to get good xD

TBH I don't understand how you can have that much APm. I have at most 60 and often beat 2000-2200 players now. I think SC2 is more about decision making than just spamming shit. I often watch replays and see people clicking a-move about 20 times when controlling a probe or pressing the same button over and over to get their apm up.

I legitimately non spamming get >200-250 for periods of 30-60s at a time in a game but I'm not spamming.

Average apm of most of my games is around 110 but first 5 mins I dont spam like a fucktard to increase my average like some people :p

If you download SC2 gears you can checkout stuff like apm graphs - here's one of mine.

My apm average is usually about 110-120 each game, although that's more like 160 or so because the SC2 system measures your apm per in game minute on fastest speed so its actually more like actions per 40 seconds.

Also I do spam a bit at the start of games sometimes if I feel uncomfortable/nervous or I'm trying to warm up a bit.

Yeah I know, I was just trying to exaggerate how bad those koreans were doing :D

Yep hope Jinro can go all the way. You get so much entertainment for your money with the GSL games.

One problem I've been having lately is my mouse hand gets so fucking cold! It really messes up my unit control.

Mines a filco majestouch tactile touch which has cherry MX brown switches. I spent ages looking into mechanical keyboards before buying and I decided I wanted brown switches which none of the 'gaming' mechanical keyboards seem to have for some reason. IIRC the blackwidow has blue switches and when I looked at the steelseries g6v2 it had black switches so I was like QQ until I found this keyboard :D It feels awesome, I just want to sit here typing all day lol. I've heard good reviews of the blackwidow though, and it's a bit cheaper than this keyboard.

That keyboard sounds pretty swish tbh.

Thought I'd try another ladder match last night, definate improvement (thanks to some tips from Nate) but I still got stomped by a 4gate stalker force. I tried some reaper harass early on and dented his economy a bit, but by the time I had trained 3 reapers and not concentrated on more marauders he had a pretty sizeable force. Im getting better, slowly. I remember to make scv's throughout the game now and can produce a constant supply of reinforcements whilst fighting.
