dunno about making it seriously but saving it I have ben doing the following:

Offered my landlords to hoover the communal hallways and get £20 knocked off my rent.

Moved my savings to Nationwide e-ISA and they have something like 3.1% which is the best about atm.

Worked out all outgoing bills and design a strict budget...and stick to it.

You could play the stock markets, my friend makes his living through that but he just lost a huge amount of money in unforseen circumstances and I for one am not going to gamble with my savings lol!
