There's no such thing as easy money and if you try to get some, you'll probably lose what you got. It's work like no other and you have to put in the hours to know what to do.

Then agin, on this previus note, i made 500$ today by only being smart ;)

I need to make around £500 asap to buy a new PC. I work full-time already so no 'get a job etc'. I have about £1500 but with the move I reckon I'll need at least that to fall back on.

I have a few things to sell (guitar, hopefully £100, amp, around £40, and my broken laptop, which might get a bit of money for parts (still works, just about, but its an HP and has the classic HP over-heating issues since purchase. It has a BD drive so might make me £50)). So that leaves me £300 to get.

HOW?

selling - gumtree

selling games - play.com

aoami - a can of compressed air, some thermal paste remover, some thermal paste, and a good set of screwdrivers. Open your laptop up, clean it out, reseat the CPU. That will cost you a £10. And you should be able to sell your laptop for more, or keep it going a little longer.

You need to find a guide for opening up whatever model it is, and have a good collection of torq and square head screwdrivers.

no, I don't live in the UK. they're ususally centrally organized though. there will be websites. just remember: days are long, and nobody will want to take your flyers even if you are neat and presentable. it may rain, that kind of stuff. if you can hook up with a mate doing it, or make friends with someone there and agree to hit the peds together, you can make it funner.

yeah srsly Aoami, a good set of tools and a guide on youtube or something will help you out loads man. also: *don't* try to force a torx screw with a regular screwdriver!

Haha, I honestly don't mind, getting out the house and earning some $$ is all the main aim, used to love bumming around when I was younger, now I can't stand to sit for an hour or two without getting bored. bleh.

in that case, seeing as I don't know who to contact...I'd say approach someone flyering in the street and get their boss' number...

Replaced the thermal paste, now it just crashes every 5 mins.

Edit - also had a checksum error, which i seem to have corrected by changing the date/time in the bios.

Very clever.

Before, when it crashed thanks to over-heating, it would turn itself off. Now, the screen flickers and it just freezes and I have to turn it off myself.

Any ideas guys?

Compressed air, blow it out completely, dust and dirt will block airflow.. Did you clean the old thermal paste of properly first? Are all the fans that help vent air out of the laptop working (if you have any). Are your power saving / heat management settings in the bios on?

Also, are you sure it's an overheating problem? Have you run memory diagnostic, and harddrive diagnostic software? If you have more than one ram DIMM installed, alternate between then to see if one is faulty?

Cleaned it out, removed the old thermal paste with Acetone (there was a lot more there than the amount I applied, it was properly welded on as well), all vents are working and the fan is spinning properly, and power/heat management are on. It also seems to be running slightly cooler already when it stays on long enough to tell.

I'm not sure it's an over-heating problem now, but it deffo was before, the series of HP laptop I have are famous for them. I will try your other ideas though, thanks.
