OK. Played a while now.

Snipers need nerfing. Hitscan weapons need removing (or changing to weapons with real bullets that have a distance to travel).

Maps could be bigger (the ones in the closed beta are way too small IMO).

There's something about skiing that means that even if you hit the ground at a very slight angle you get a fair whack of your speed scrubbed off. Can be doing, say, 180kph and hit the ground at like, 5 degrees from plane and you still lose about 40-50kph. Weird.

The last patch has introduced various bugs, including an annoying disconnect one.

Other than that - great. I've got one key left if anyone wants it. :)

The game is so much slower since the newest patch that my whole clan has simply stopped playing. It's really irritating. The first CBT patch was a good step forward, since then it has just gone backwards. Projectile inheritance, which was a meager 20% before, now feels like 0% in this patch. It's absurd. The argument put forward by HiRez for this has always been that it's 'easier for new players'. Sorry but, objectively speaking, counter-intuitive and unrealistic physics make no sense at all - ESPECIALLY for new players. Ridiculous.

Ski around at 180km/h+ and fire a projectile, then you'll see what I'm talking about. The inheritance is shot to shit. The speed overall is definitely lower also due to the (undocumented in the patch notes) changes they made to the physics to 'complement' their new inheritance settings.

That's a bit of an overreaction, considering it's a closed beta...

Should have also said 'until the next patch'. ;)

I have noticed that my bullets are about half the speed now.. thats about it though.

There's definitely been some gravity changes. Some cunt online today was complaining about it being too fast (I told him to fuck off back to call of duty).

Weirdly, I felt like ther had been an increase in inheritance. Everything seems to be firing low for me if I'm moving at pace. But I'll check it out (it could just be a daily shitness I'm suffering from - I've picked up a bug and there are always vast differences in Tribes when I'm ill as opposed to not - but I guess I've played it so much I'm particularly sensitive to how I'm doing...)

Still - I can't think of another game I like more. Yes, it's not tribes 1 - I really miss lobbing a green snot at my feet then pounding through the NME flag at a bazillion miles an hour with a heavy - but at least it's not CoD, MW2 or some other shite.


Of course, I understand I'm compromising my principles for a game that needs bigger maps, must go faster, needs less shit hitscan guns and desparately needs some really cool friending/clan/voip system bolting on (but not as an afterthought, rather as a central principle), needs more complexity - not less etc. etc. etc.

But it's got Jetpacks. You can ski. And it's not based around real war. It's a game....

Oh yeah, couldn't agree more. Even a crippled Tribes game is miles better than CoD etc.

For sure, they changed something today.. I'm seeing people with 20-30 kills now and tons of people getting 3-4 kills in a row... and also it seems everyone has awesome weapons/?!!?

They've reintroduced a CTF map that's absolute gash.

Farrrrrrrr too small. I thought the existing maps were at the limit of how small a map could be and still be fun. This one has broken it - it's utter wank. It's so bad I've started avoiding CTF in favour of Team Deathmatch :(

Also, as an aside: the "closed" beta is certainly not closed. I've got a beta key spammed to the admin email at one of the domain names I own.


HiRez really need to pull their finger out with map size. Other than that - still enjoying it. :)

The new CTF map is the one with the two massive towers right? I like it to be honest, if anything it's the perfect size imo..

Really? :( I can get to the nme flag in about ten seconds in almost any armour class.

It doesn't feel like tribes at all. There's no room for tactics or long-distance gameplay. The pathfinder class (my particular thing) is wasted because it's about movement and there's no room to move IMO.

There's two big fuck-off towers with some never-ending tube in the middle where you can jetpack for free - but to what end? if you're going to have two massive enemy bases then make 'em interesting enemy bases - not just some massive phallic pointless waste-of-times that have no intricacy to them. I don't think the towers themselves lend anything to the gameplay. At all.

And, coming back to it, Tribes is about movement. How can these maps encourage movement? There's no space to move :(

Did I say I thought this map is painfully small at any point?

Edit: The rest are about as small as I ever want a tribes map to be. Did I say this "new" one was too small? It is. Way too small ;)

Just started playing last night. Enjoying it, but I see what you mean about the maps being smaller than Tribes 2 maps. I think the overall walking speed needs to be faster, jumping needs to be sorted out, I know the jetpack sort of makes it redundant, but there's nothing worse then running out of energy as you just miss the lip of a hill then having to walk or jump at snails pace to get over it before skiing again. The pistol for the solider needs improving, indoor fights are useless for soldiers at the moment.

I agree that there's not much of a worse feeling than that, but I disagree completely that that needs to change.

Fail is a fundamental part of the game - you just need to learn how to ski better and it'll happen less :D

And I disagree with this too - spinfusor is very effective indoors. You get into a fighting style based on how long it takes you to recharge the weapon and where you think the enemy is going to go to.

To be fair - I wang the mouse sensitivity straight up to 75-80 (from about 30) on the scale in the controls which allows a lot of twitch-style last second aiming...

I play on 13 sensitivity. :p

Also agree with Scouse on the above, it's all about prediction.

I'll give that try. Do any of the unlocks help aswell? May be because I haven't played a Tribes game in some years and not used to the play style after many years of BF and TF2.

Woot. No hitscans! As long as they haven't made the projectiles go at the speed of life in a big gay cop-out then win. I'll give it a go in a mo.

Now, the only thing I now give a monkeys about is map size. Fix that and we're rockin' :)

They've killed its range. Try shooting at the NME flag from the towers in Katabatic. Your discs explode a long way short.
