How's everyone enjoying the game right now? I have to say since we started playing competitive games and pickups, as well as some of the recent changes such as 50% inheritance, I'm absolutely love the game.
My team (hindsight) has played quite a few games now, the latest one being against idk? - if anyone's interested it was casted and the VOD is available here:
We have also started doing some streaming, and we casted two games this week. idk? vs. wai and ffr vs. wai. The ffr vs. wai game in particular was really exciting and well worth checking out. Our VODs are available at http://www.twitch.tv/hindsighttv and we're working on getting VODs available at http://www.youtube.com/hindsighttribes also. For other updates and such we also have a twitter which gets regular updates: http://www.twitter.com/hindsightz
Pickup games are now going on in force, you can get involved by dropping by #tamixed on irc.quakenet.org. To play you need to be whitelisted, which generally means being in a clan, as this is currently the only way to get on the private servers that are used for non-public games. However, there is a tamixed clan now setup for the express purpose of getting people whitelisted. You can get on their roster by speaking to 'Gavrok' in the aforementioned irc channel.
Enjoying it. Maps need to be bigger (still). Doombringers chaingun in particular needs nerfing. Glad they made non-full shots of the sniper rifle much weaker.
Not sure about the new CTF map. Pretty (ish) but not very functional IMO.
Off for a game of snooker in real life in a bit tho
Yeah, we definitely have a mixed bunch in there right now - which i think can only be a good thing to be honest. Pickups should be a way for people to get into competitive Tribes, not just for the best players to have a circle jerk.
The UI update was great, at first it was a bit annoying with all the navigation - but they've added a few more controls and shortcuts.
My only concern is that they seem to break quite a few things when they try to fix them. Shrikes used to be fine a couple of patches ago, then they nerfed them (which was deserved) and screwed things up with the momentum. This latest patch has screwed up the movement even further - they're currently unusable.
They could really do with getting private servers released, concentrating on fixing remaining issues to get out of beta, then having a separate stable and beta version for players to test.
Just had a quick blast at Tribes 2. There were loads of people still playing.
Looks like shit, but was top top fun. The mortars from the heavies were awesomesauce and the chaingun was practically no use in a close up fight. Still the better game.
I had a test beta key but not even downloaded it yet. Will do something about it over weekend but off to Seattle next week so won't get much time to try it.
You don't need one. It's open beta now - just create an account and give it a go.
It's suffering from juttering at the moment - which is a bit of a nightmare for a game that relys totally on smooth movement. Comes out of beta soon too.
There's a tournament upcoming on http://www.gameshrine.org which will be a nice way to round off the beta stage of the game. Still have massive concerns about the lack of private servers, demos, the broken chasing, the broken flag physics and the horrible netcode... but otherwise it's tonnes better than T:V.
Some of the problems are really fundamenal ones Keitanz, such as the terrible netcode which struggles with 16v16 when Tribes1 could do 64v64...
Edit: Played last night and came across my first pair of obvious aimbotters. Two of 'em, working together. Mid-aired me (3 times) on Arx Novena when I was high over the aqueduct in the centre of the map and they were at the base. The flag took so long to drop that I almost made it back in time to grab it by the time it had finished bouncing...
What was his name? I can't really see how you can aimbot a projectile weapon. There have been aimbots for the hitscan weapons and the rifles etc, but they've mostly been blocked and the users banned. 19 mid-airs in a game is quite a lot, but I and other members of my clan have managed those kind of figures and higher quite often if we just fragwhore on pubs and go for the midairs.
I don't see why you can't aimbot a projectile weapon. Sure, you may miss a lot of the time but it'll definitely help with the accuracy if you spam (which he was doing - constantly from all distances).
I'd tend to come in quick as PF, grab, drop a gren to get height and vault the aqueduct in the middle (by a mile) and then land on the flag. Never been mid-aired there (got shot by snipers loads) - and 3 times in one map was suspicious. So I spectated him and he had that "tracking" movement that you see in the aimbot vids going on. Yeah, he missed a lot, but spammed so much that sooner or later one'd land...
Well if you're doing the same route, and he's spamming the discs trying to midair you all the time it's hardly surprising he'd hit you eventually. Idk, could be an aimbot indeed I'm just always wary of throwing accusations around where there could well be very reasonable doubt.
Nah, I wasn't doing the same route. Sideways (over or through) was impossible against him (straight in the face every time). There were two working together (like they were lanning side-by-side) and they had the same thing going on...
I don't usually throw aimbot accusations about. I'd never even seen one in tribes before but it was so obvious it was only after the game did I go online to look up the vids.
A hitscan aimbot simply has to keep your crosshair on the player all the time, fairly simple.
A projectile aimbot needs to figure out your speed (due to weapon inheritance), the weapon you've got (for the weapon speed), the speed of the enemy (how far he's going to be in the next few milliseconds), the direction the enemy is moving towards, and the latency of your connection to compensate. Not quite so easy to code.
It's not impossible, but it's certainly far more difficult. Just remember that it's pretty easy to midair heavies in this game.
Of people playing public servers or casts of competitive games? I really think this game is exciting to watch on streams, definitely check some out if you're interested in the game. There will be lots coming up with this tournament happening, check www.spinfusor.org as they're all posted there.
Love it Though I miss the old maps and vehicles. Still trying to work out all the upgrading rubbish. Can someone explain to me what the Gold Points thing is all about and why I shouldn't Rage about it?
The final is tomorrow, there was 4k+ viewers for the semi final games today :O. GReaper who also posts here played in one semi final with his team Working As Intended and they came really close to beating #1 seed I Don't Know? My team won our semi so please cheer me on tomorrow night . The stream will be here: http://www.twitch.tv/egslive
I'm miri, or well currently I'm eSportsPuntsLOL... :x and GReaper is GReaper.
The 4k was a bit of an anomoly because the stream got put on the front page of Twitch.tv, but I think the retention of viewers was pretty high which is really positive. Below are the VoDs of the semi finals:
