I have mixed views about this as a Utd fan.

End of the day he is a Madrid fan was always going to leave at some point, £80m is a lot of money to turn down even for the world player of the year.

My worry is we will be reaplcing him with Valencia who quite frankly is no better than Nani or Park, his goalscoring record is piss poor.

Will be a lot of pressure on Rooney now to take over from Ronaldo.

No need to worry one bit. This will give Rooney a more important role in the team and believe me, he will relish it. I tell you now, we will see the best of Rooney and it will be scary.

He's been a bit wasted this season, he should thrive now, and hopefully play even better for England as well ;)

This is the only reason I am happy that Ronaldo is going, much like Nistelrooy and Beckham before him, everything had to come from him. It unbalanced the team, and forced Rooney out of position. Rooney in the free role Ronaldo held will scare the shit out of the opposition.

Lets first see about that before we all go " omg rooney will rule everyone now with his free role!!!!" he's great but not that great so far(could be cause i rate him really high as player)

@ marc, indeed they were poor this year but if those diarra's and gago get their play going.. they will be unstoppable.

But! only thing that matters to me, is that diego @ juve will kick ass like hell :D Really really hope they can get far in next CL.

Rooney shown how devestating a scorer he can be, ok some them are against poorer opposition but he the first player to score 10 goals in a season for England since 1991? or was it 1996, cant remember... but in way over a decade since Gary Lineker done it.

I really like to see more of Rooney up top, just as much as he himself wants to play there. Hopefully he can get to being a true goal scorer for united, something he yet to truelly achieve due to his various playstyles and position.

Ahahaha Calderon:
"I don't mind that I was unable to sign him during my presidency. I am a Real fan and I'm very happy. The most important thing is the club.
"Real are very well organised with a lot of income, and the new president [Perez] can now spend the money I made and saved.
"We needed to improve by one or two players, and that's what Perez has done by signing Kaka and Ronaldo."

Money he saved my arse, he did not have enough money, and could not borrow enough.

I dont know anything about Yaya im afraid, I will email my friend to see if he knows something. However, I cant see why he would want to leave Barca as he has made a name for himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the world and is idolised in Barca. However, I am sure I read somewhere yesterday he was an open to a switch but had ruled out Arsenal because they werent big enough for him. This isnt a troll, its what I read. It might have been in the sun or something so it is probably bull.

Its not realistic to call Arsenal a bigger club than Barce or we would not lose a player to them every other summer :) So I'm not offended i also realise the whole Arsenal link is probably just a play by Yaya's agent to get him some extra cash but i can still keep my fingers crossed.

£80 million is good business for someone who was hurting team morale, good luck to the lad, I bear him no ill-will.

Just hope United spend wisely, Nani out the door for a start and then replace with someone who has the hunger to match his skill.

Madrid more or less signed Villa today for £50m Euro's plus 2 players.

Also Graham Hunter on SSN reckons, Ribery, Alonso, Clichy or Evra will be joining them.

Madrid v Barca next season will certainly be interesting lol.

Apparently they could (Madrid) be after Arbeloa for 8million.

Portsmouth have confirmed 4 clubs have enquired about Glen Johnson, with Sky sports saying Liverpool and Chelsea are two of them. They reckon between 18-20million to sign him.

Yes and no, he was never going to get a look in at Chelsea when he was sold, he needed regular 1st team football to develop. In essence they will be paying pompey to have developed him for them.

Yeah but a loan deal would have been more financially savy for them.

I don't really understand why we are bidding for Johnson to come back.

Bosingwa has done a sterling job filling in the gaping hole we had at right-back, and i think he will continue to develop his defensive abilities. It's not like we're short at the back anyway. If Carvalho goes (which i think he will), we still have JT, Alex, Ivanovic, Mancienne, Cole, Ferreira and Belletti.

I quite like these rumours that Maldini could be joining us in a coaching capacity, would really help get our steel in the back line back again like we had with Clarkey.

Yeah it seems mad, I really like Belletti, It's the same with Liverpool didn't they buy like three full backs last summer,

Yup :p

I think if we're bringing in defensive cover we should have put a bid in for Zhirkov already. Since he can play anywhere down the left he'll provide cover for Cole and push Malouda for his first-team spot.

Other than that, i think we should be looking at a young centre-mid to replace Deco (since the ACN will leave us with Lampard and Ballack in midfield and no more) as well as another forward player.

Aye Zhirkov would have been a good one.

Bosingwa is okay -Belletti will be 36 this year I believe, not really a player for everygame. Ferreira is not good enough for a top 4 team. Johnson give you a slightly better defender than Bosingwa, and a much better attacker down the flanks.

Have been reading a few posts on 606 about this.

About as much chance of that happening as Rooney signing for Liverpool.

That would surely be the end of Benitez at Liverpool if Torres was sold out from under his feet. Yet if they are in the financial mess they seem to be they might be compelled by their bankers to accept a deal.

Strong links in the press today saying Villa are in for Bentley and Upson. Would be very happy to have them both, with possibly Milner moving into the middle as an attacking central midfielder. Sign 'em up MON!

You want Bentley? they guy who is 3rd choice at one of your rivals way to think big ;)

I think this Liverpool thing can't be as serious as the papers make out as the players are signing new deals and you would not think they would on a sinking ship.

Bentley is not a bad player though, he simply does not fit the way redknapp plays - harry himself has said this.
