The rat is probably there because your kitchen is filthy. I take it you just throw the rat out, don't clean your kitchen and let a load more turn up?

edit: You're going to start calling them rats now? Really? History really does seem to repeat itself, all you need now is a charismatic leader with a 'final solution'. We've got the rest, blaming immigrants and the poor for all the problems, a shitty economy with lots of debt and dreams of reclaiming an Empire.
No, it's an analogy but nevermind. Enjoy your Godwin's law trophy.
I want to get rid of the rat, but I really to make sure I don't get more rats.
Indeed but follow the logic, they've become resistant to the existing methods of getting rid of them. So what next?

I think you have to decide that you won't accept those low standards in the future and set the bar even higher. We should expect more, not less. Progress, I believe they call it.

Stop all cash for benefits. The government can own and kit out a house then let you live there. No more paying you to pay your landlord BS. Then make a deal with Tesco and deliver 7 x 3 balanced meals a week. Then then have a roof over their head and enough food to live. Offer incentives like 10 hours of community service will earn you ?40 cash ect. I hate the idea that they go and have 5 kids they don't care about just so they can get enough money to support a 40 a day habit while owning nicer tech than me.

Hello you old cunt, long time no see. Luckily for the me I live outside of a main town so I only got to saw the shit on TV. Some of us do live in the thick of it.

On a serious note (if you can be for a mo) what are your thoughts on it and how has it been portrayed in America?

How ironic, in the last week scientists have noted that rats/mice are becoming immune to all strains of pesticide.

Take away the conditions in which rats thrive. I don't particularly like the rat metaphor, but if we have to run with it, so be it. Its not about getting rid of them after the fact, its about making conditions not conducive to rats in the first place. I find self-respect through meaningful work, a decent standard of living, and a parental environment that allows parents to use all the tools required to raise children, not just the sociologist-approved ones.

I've come to a depressing conclusion as I've got older. Reasoned argument is a fine thing, but by definition half the human race aren't smart enough to recognise reasoned argument if it smacked them in the face, so instead, for those people, you need to use...a smack in the face. Fear of the big dog is what keeps stupid people in line and always will. The problem with that argument is people rather lazily conflate class/poverty with lack of intelligence, and that's a huge mistake. We need to get much better at identifying smart people, no matter what their background, really early, and giving them every chance (because smart frustrated people with no outlet are the most dangerous people of all), but we also need to accept most people are dumb as a fencepost, and with those, you need fear.

We can make it fluffy unicorn if you prefer. I'm glad it's not just me that worries about the base level of intelligence of people as whole.

In the vein of the Old Spice Adverts:
Hello Rioters. Look at your friend, now back to me. Now at your friend, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me, but if he stopped using petrol bombs and started using job centre he could potentially be me. Look down, back up. Where are we? You're at an interview with the man your friend could work for. What's in your hand? Back at me. I have it. It's an application form to that job you need. Look again. The form is now money. Anything is possible when you get a job and stop looting. I'm on a horse

(friend posted it on facebook and it rather amused me)

Reports coming in that six shots have been fired in Chelsea & all have missed.

Apparently the police are now looking to question Fernando Torres for his poor shooting

A bit? I've heard British historians be utterly awful human beings but this is the first time I've seen it for myself. It's just sad knowing that a lot of people will listen to him and just nod their heads in agreement.
