Not really sure you can use Ireland as some sort of example considering the financial mess it is in.
No silver fox he isn't but his point is it isn't some sort of cake walk being on the dole....at least not for everyone any way.
Nope, read it twice, still don't understand.
Mabs' original point was that a cushy existence on the dole was part of the reason they are rioting. I don't buy the "cushy" argument in the slightest, because if that was the case the far cushier benefits claimants all over Europe would have burned the place down by now.

Agreed, although overall in the past few years there have been quite a few riots in Europe.

not the reason they are rioting directly
the reason they have no respect
if you have nothing to lose, then why not riot ?
get fined ? how ? dont have any money ?
cant take away stuff they dont have
All for different reasons though; pure ethnic (France) to, "nasty EU are going to make us pay tax" (Greece).
Okay.
Working on the assumption the majority of rioters/looters are from poor/under-privelaged backgrounds, in the long-term sense they are at the root of our society's problems. Unemployment, low incomes, high teenage pregnancy, crime, gang culture and so forth. These things are tied inextricably to their position in society for one reason and another. On the other hand, they are also relatively powerless to do anything about it as the 'power' is held in the hands of the rich side of society. Hence they feel disaffected, alienated and that they have nowhere to turn or any way to improve their situation.
Obviously this is an age old problem, but things like the rioting we are seeing right now is a manifestation of that frustration and disaffection. No matter if these people are 'scum' for their actions - and it's hard to argue against that, their actions are no doubt abhorent - it's also hard to ignore the fact that they are brought up their whole lives believing that's what they are and that's all they can ever be. All the power belongs to the minority, and sadly it is hard to see that ever changing.
Apparently stuff is happening in Warrington now as well.
shitting it for Widnes, we're halfway through getting a new cinema and Tesco complex, hope they don't fuck it up![]()
Isna students news agency (in English), Iran
Iran called for London police to exercise self-restraint in dealing with protesters in Tottenham, north of London. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast referred to Saturday night's massive protests in Tottenham, which came following [the killing] of a young black man by Scotland Yard police and called for the UK government to avoid any police's harsh treatment with protesters. He stressed return of peace and calm to London through talks and examining demands of the demonstrators. Mehmanparast expressed hope independent human rights bodies would take measures to make clear facts behind murder of the black man soon.
If they burned Widnes down would anyone notice?
They're food is suppose to be really nice.Things have changed now man! We have a Marks and Spencers now! We're all posh.
Seems Mark Duggan didnt fire at the police before he was shot - IPCC.
Regardless, if you carry a gun, you deserve to get shot.
I said it before, live by the sword, die by the sword.
