Gangs of kids were in Northfield last night (about a mile from my house) mugging anybody stupid enough to walk through the place. All the coppers were in the city centre so they got away with it scott free. Reports of mass looting there now, hopefully they won't venture this way :S

I've mellowed a bit in my anger, if we get a repeat of last night then we may need water cannons, aggressive tactics or even the army. However, there is not point risking further uprising by causing a death -which is where that route would end.

Also, it's clear from interviews with looters just how uneducated some of these people are, they will only get worse in the face of strong arm tactics now.

As for the army, hardline sentencing etc, giving the government more power over social networks and mobile networks; it's a slippery slope once we sign over power like that to the state.

Also for the comparisons with saudi; I'm bloody glad I don't live in a country that's anything like saudi. I value the personal freedoms I have here.

Police numbers are pointless if they havent got the authority to use force. Why bother sticking 100 police infront of the youth if they just gonna watch them smash and steal things.

Salford and West Brom have trouble right now, in London there isn't the same feeling in the air (in the parts I've been too) as there was last night. I feel safer tonight -I'd be more worried if I was in an area that had not been hit yet, that had lots of shops.

Everyone town around here has closed early, people sent home, high police presence. That goes for Croydon, Wimbledon, Rose Hill, West Norwood, Thornton Heath.

16,000 Police on the streets, the scum take the night off.
The Met scale down the Police presence, they scum come back out.

They cannot sustain keeping 16,000 Police on the streets every night. Until they are dealt harsh justice the problem will not go away.

The problem is the police are in a no win situation now, they will risk more anger if they go in too hard. Had they gone in hard in Tottenham then they would have probably nipped it in the bud. Once again the tabloid press have a lot to answer for with their reporting of the original shooting, lots of speculation.

Got as far as him mentioning Mark Duggan who had 'Brothers, Sisters, Parents' He neglected to mention that he also had a firearm.

Fucks sake, this is nothing to do with shooting an armed gangster, this is all to do with kids on a zero spend shopping spree, just cos they think they can get away with it.

There is going to be a backlash, and it's not going to come a moment too soon.

I work for a living, I pay my way, and I'm not a criminal. I have nothing to fear from the backlash, I can't wait to see it starting.
