Oh, and gas & air is marvellous stuff, like being drunk but without the dizziness/feeling sick. I tried to give some to Xavier but he wouldn't have any, don't quite know why! Didn't get to try the pethidine, but maybe next time eh, if there is one.

i had pethidine once (not for pregnancy I hasten to add) and its has some "interesting" side effects. Like me talking to a dimunitve gentleman of ethnic origin who was, for some reason, suspended from my bedroom ceiling.

Let's just say that Xav watched every bit, and had to 'become' a stirrup when one broke, which is a great source of amusement for me now (wasn't for me when it happened of course)! Heehee

Hello everybody,

Its nice to read everybodies comments, I am still very much pregnant.

My feelings on that subject swing to either side of the scale on a minutly (?) basis. I want her out, Im bored of being pregnant and I cant wait to see our baby, but I can also quite happily forego the pain that I have to come to reach that outcome.

I dont sleep anymore at night but instead lie there wondering why I havent gone into labour yet. Everymorning when I get up Im just annoyed that shes another day late. I am so impatient now.

Im fed up and totally bored but at the same time I do not want to do anything feel like life is currently paused until she arrives now. Guess shes gonna take after her mum and be late as usual. Trem will keep you posted and prob post the mimute anything deff starts to happen. I cant wait just hope it doesnt hurt too much.

Hi there Samm I was 10 days overdue when my real contractions started, and he was born 11 days late. That's quite the norm with first babies, so you may have a while to wait yet! I was also impatient and really fed up, it feels like a year when you are waiting for something exciting doesn't it!

My advice though (and what I will do if there is a next time), is to REALLY enjoy the time you have left, relax, and get try to get plenty of sleep. Although our son slept for 12 hours straight after the birth, and then quite often for 4 days afterwards, I found that I couldn't sleep at all, which was really annoying. I still don't think I have got over that part. I was running around like a mad woman doing housework (including dragging the vacuum up and down the stairs) right up until I went into labour, and I wish I hadn't. So put your feet up, eat lots of goodies, and REST!

Soon enough you will be feeding a baby every 2 hours or so, day or night, and you'll not feel all that up to it really. It's hard work, but time begins to pass, and soon you see the smiles, and hear the giggles, and see your baby's face light up when she sees you, and it'll all be worth it.

About the pain - don't make any promises to yourself about wanting a natural birth, etc, as you will be disappointed if you don't do that in the end. Keep an open mind, and you will feel so much better.

I used a TENS machine, hired from Boots, 3 hours after my contractions started as I had to wait for Xav to get home from work to put it on for me, and it got me through 8 hours before the epidural. It stimulates nerve endings into thinking you are in pain (you put it on very early on in labour), and so much of the pain is blocked. It also gives your mind something else to think about, as you click the boost button during contractions.

When labour does start, if you have a long labour, keep thinking to yourself that 'I've been through x amount of hours now, and I won't have to do that bit again'. I also wrote down the time and length of my contractions. Worked wonders for me!

I still highly recommend the epidural lol - I had a 'partial' one, which was quite good, but next time I will be having the nerve blocker max strength please! You will be offering to have the anaesthetist's babies! Unfortunately, I still haven't quite worked out what sex my anaesthetist was.....

Oh, and if lots of visitors come round after the birth, and you really don't want to see anyone, just cry. They'll soon get the message (a midwife gave me that tip).

Don't worry if you are a little 'out of it' and don't want to hold your baby much, that's what men are for
