<says some random bullshit, just like usual>

Yesterday you were slagging him off, others were saying he was washed up. far from it boys, far from it. He might be an ugly greedy granny shagging cnut but there is no doubt when he is on form he is a top quality striker.

It'll soon be super dave rather than super rick! :worthy:

Out of interest, where else do you think Chelsea need to strengthen? Personally I think the wings still aren't strong enough and Boswinga doesn't totally convince me. You still have the best defensive midfielder in the world in Essien when he is on form though, that bloke is immense.

media myth? enlighten me please. It's a new situation when the defender tries to clear it, no?

No. When the ball is played to Saha, he is offside. The ball reaches him via a touch from the defender, it is still the same pass.

Essien's better in the centre of midfield with Lampard IMO - his ball winning is on par with Mikel but his distribution and defensive discipline isn't quite the same.

I'd say we need to strengthen in the wings but if we continue to play 3 up top with Malouda, Anelka, Drogba, Torres and Sturridge & Kakuta to come back in the summer, chances of us getting anyone new in? Doubtful

Defensively Ivan is a beast at right back, I think with a fully fit squad it's hard to say where we're gapingly weak right now.

From the laws of the game:

Offence
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position

The last point is the most crucial in this situation.

but when the defender tries to clear it, then it's not "the same pass" but becomes a new situation. It would only be the same pass if it was blocked. The striker doens't get penalized for the defenders bad technique.

Edit: haha, way to make up for it. I missed both goals while discussing.

No you're mistaken, that's the rules of offside. I didn't cherry pick.

“gaining an advantage by being in that position” means playing a ball
that rebounds to him off a goalpost or the crossbar having been in an
offside position or playing a ball that rebounds to him off an opponent
having been in an offside position

Seriously, it's offside.

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2010_11_e.pdf

Example 12 shows you it's offside. Anything else you understand is wrong, and has been perpetuated by twats like Andy Gray.

The shot by a team-mate (A) rebounds off an opponent to attacker (B) who is
penalised for playing the ball having previously been in an offside position

It's funny you should say it - that's the example I was looking at before my last post. The ball is blocked in the example, and it's therefore the same pass/shot. It becomes a new situation as soon as it's being cleared.

There's this though:
• gaining an advantage by being in that position

I guess you could say that he's gaining advantage, even though the ball wouldn't reach him in the first place.

... And I don't remember ever seeing a match commentated by Andy Gray. Hell, even my fifa is on spanish! :D

0.o No one has been close to the lad? Really? Surely he would have more goals if what you claim is true. Let us ground ourselves in reality here, the lad is new to the PL and defenders have not figured him out yet. When he has a couple of good seasons under his belt I will be inclined to believe the hype.

This is true.

But:
He's finally had enough of the $hite, Torres Torres
He's packed his bags, he's off tonight, Torres Torres
So fook the Kop your teams a flop
Im on my way so suck my cock
Fernando Torres Chelseas number 9

Scousers obviously still write the best songs... :p

If you don't think that being closer to the ball when it will land is an advantage then football clearly is too high brow for you.
