Just to clarify: MON didn't say he was going to sell a star player. He was asked if he would quit if Lerner cut the purse strings and he said that he wouldn't - that he would look for other ways to compete.

When asked what that meant he said it would include a variety of measures - looking for lower division or foreign players or even selling a star player. He then quickly added that he didn't want to do that, and that would be absolute last resort.

Since then the Milner rumours have started apace. But I think we showed over the Gareth Barry situation that we won't be messed about, Lerner and MON play hardball. I'd also be surprised if Milner even wanted to leave at this stage -- he loves the club and the manager.

why the hell does Rafa always use Lucas in a "holding" midfield role?

He always looks much better and more comfortable in an attacking role.

because benitez is a joke and has a long, baffling history of playing good players (gerrard, kuyt, lucas, bellamy, keane, the list goes on) out of position and makes them look half the player they really are?

i can't stand liverpool personally, but even so it pains me to watch benitez ruin some of the players he has had under his command over the past few years. it's a testament to how good gerrard is that he has consistently been fantastic for liverpool even when he was played wide right and such.

When was the last time Gerrard was played wide right for Liverpool? 2 and a half years ago maybe more? As for the rest; Keane wasnt played out of position just isn't good enough. Bellamy is a good player but too volatile. Kuyt was given all the opportunities to play as a striker, but he is doing a hell of a lot better on the right. I wouldn't attack Benetiz for playing players out of position, more for his purchases and substitutions.

ps So pleased that Utd got put out, even more pleased with Ferguson's failure to blame anyone but a united player, instead making a sweeping statement regarding an entire nation. Benetiz has said some fucking stupid things over the years but if he wasn't a Sir he would be absolutely crucified for that.

because it was 2.5 years ago (for an entire fucking season) it makes it good management? please.

kuyt was banging them in holland as a striker, bellamy is arguably the best player man city have this season in a multi-million pound squad and if you think keane 'wasn't good enough' playing out of position (support striker is not his role, bigsoz) in a team that had the grand sum of two truly world class players (torres and gerrard) then... wow. keane could have brought so much more to liverpool and yet he was shipped out by the fat waiter only to be replaced by who? ngog? don't make me laugh.

liverpool have been riding on the high of their 80s success for a long time, but benitez has done little more than compound how far they have fallen behind the other big clubs in the uk. especially in the last two seasons.

also, united - hilarious. "typical germans" was the best thing i have heard a football manager say in years.

Gerrard has been stuck on the wing more then once this season.. infact just recently (trying to remember which game) he played behind torres, on the left wing, and then on the right wing.

Also, Ferguson has mentioned that rafael showed inexperience in what he done. So he did make a comment about his own team. Just he also mentioned the "typical germans". THis is not a sweeping statement about a nation, afteral the entire nation doesnt play football. It was a statement about german football. And too be honest it true, but it more of a "typical mainland european's" then just germans.

However, you only need to look at the way the actual germans are in any country. Ballack for instance is very prone to get in the face of referee's to try get a decision his way.

Unlike those United players and manager who are never known to dispute decisions or ask for a referee to give a decision?

Man Utd dont particularly surround referee;s as a team now.. generally there only be 2 players unless it something very malicious (as previously said).

Ferguson goes up on his own, not as a group. He fights his own battles. unlike the germans :D

Dont expect you to understand the difference between disputing a decision, and having a number of players all running up to the ref together and insisting the guy get a booking.
Referee's though are cowards. They been told to book any player that asks them to card an opposition, yet you almost never see them doing it. It is about time the referee's end this crap (from all teams, including some of the united side) and book them everytime they flash the imaginary card or run up saying someone should be sent off. When they start getting 2 yellows in a game for this, or booked every match, and find self constantly suspended it would be cut down on.

This however has to be done in uefa competitions mainly as that where the problem is seen more. And as I said, I hope that english teams DO start hounding the ref more in europe. It the only way to get a fair crack as the other countries do it at every opportunity.

Just found arshavin's blog.. is this for real, this is pure comedy gold.

17. From saharOK
Hi , Andrey! I have a question. You know that many girls love to play football, but when they reach a certain age they find it difficult to take a ball on their chest, what would be your advice???))))
Arshavin: It is better to have a big chest than an ability to stop the ball with it ;)))

2. From rada
Dear Andrey Arshavin, I want to say that you are the one who revived Russian football! Who of the legendary footballers can you compare yourself with?
Arshavin: Andrey Arshavin is one of a kind.

Oh yeah thats right, Man City are the only team in manchester anyway. if the scousers had been chanting, "are you watching Salford", then yeah, they would be addressing Man United! ;)

Reina on signing a new 6 year contract with the scum.

"I'm delighted," the Spaniard told Liverpool's website. "It's probably the best news of my life that I'll be here for the next six years.
"It's very important that my family love it here as well, as family life is just as important as my career."
Reina added: "My wife told me from the beginning she was more than happy here.
"My kids enjoy it and they have picked up the Scouse accent already. I am really proud of that.
"In the years ahead they will speak much more Scouse too."

What a fucking idiot, and quite clearly, a bad parent.

Howard Webb been awful in this game.. the standard of referee's at the top level has been very bad this season to be honest, so no surprise there.
