Frankly thats too harsh who wanna its still a game.. but like old emain with 10minute pad waiting that was a penalty...

no it wasn't. at best you got slightly annoying having to wait for the port.

it was an annoyance, not a penalty :)

Well, rezz sickness was the actual penalty, but waiting on the pad was definitely a motivational incentive not to die ;)

rvr rezz illness is iirc nowhere near as long as the pve one is, and even tho its not curable its still just slightly annoying. atleast it wasn't curable when i played, chances are theres some ML or arti that can now.. wich if true again makes the whole point with it null.

if the debuff would be say, 10 minutes long, THEN it would have been a slightly better penalty.

but now its what, a minute and a half long?

so if you wipe its basically the time it takes to port back and rebuff, give or take half a minute...

/edit: besides, rvr rezz illness werent ingame when we had the 10 minute port cyckles. :)

that one came in NF.

A fair review, if a little bland and a little out of date. A lot has happened in 2 weeks, most of it bad. Reducing the retail price during the first free month for new players and giving all new purchases an additional 60 days free when the players who joined from beta get the finger has blown up big time for Cryptic and they are looking at a much bigger exodus of players next week than they thought if they don't apply that free time to all accounts.

For my mind the review only skims the surface, he never gets to the real heart of the problems.

No mention of the pricing fiasco, no mention of the inflated subs price or the con that is C-store and no mention of the skill system, probably the worst explained and most nonsensical skill system of any modern mmo.

Dying in DAoC rvr doesn't mean you have to release, im sure they had rezz even when you were playing :p

Rezz sickness was a penalty to stop players being rezzed and then instantly healed back to full effectiveness. They bought in skills and items to do this, but they were on long reuse timers or required huge mana usage and were on slow cast timers (PR, 100% spec rezz, arti rezz sick removal and ML rezz sick removal for example).

While rezz sick you deal less damage and heals are less effective on you, plus a few other minor inconveniences.

There is no resurection in STO, only respawn, so no real need for a death penalty.

LOL what? So new buyers get 2 months of play time? Yet we only got 30 days for early adoption?

I will be raising a ticket to claim my 30 extra days.

Nope, it's worse. New purchases get 90 days free and it's £10 less. Some people bought the game and the next day-or-so this change came in, but they are excluded, imagine that..... :)

Been avoiding the official forums recently, it's just too much for anyone to take in. Clicky, but be warned, power QQ lies therein!!

They might have addressed this already, but i doubt it. Hence the outrage on the official forums

Well I'm fairly miffed tbh, I've stopped playing, and do not plan to pay for the privilege at the moment. But I did pay my £40 and feel entitled to the same free time as everyone else.

Lost it now, just cannot figure out what is true and what is bullplop.

Just visited the official forums and they are on fire, this is one of the biggest messes i have seen for a long time in an mmo. The forums were already bad, now they are just beyond a joke.

RE: Atari Sale - Page 2 - Star Trek Online Forums

Massive moderation and quite a few senior members have been banned from the forums and appareantly the game as well, threads closed everytime someone tries to ask Cryptic about the "offer".

Rumours abound that Atari have now pulled the free additional 60 days, so basically people are accusing them of fraudulantly selling a product, then supplying a different product with 30 free days instead of 90...honestly I have lost sight of whats true and whats heresay now, it's so incredibly messed-up and Cryptic are doing their usual ostrich act.

I don't think i have seen a community so incensed and hostile since SWG NGE :(

I love the fact that according to a lot of posts, people have been cancelling their subs and requesting a refund of their life time and annual subs. Cryptic and Atari have over the weekend changed their stance on refunds; and are now refusing them.

Do they have any grasp of basic customer service and PR skills at all?

This is all very stupid. They've managed to take something that was imho a reasonable MMO launch (given unfinished state of the product) and turn it into a shit-storm hydra monster out of nowhere and for no good reason.

Glad I am not the only one to see that the forums are really unusually hostile. Always makes me laugh that people who have cancelled are still on the forums complaining about the game, even though they don't play it anymore. Hopefully in a month or so it will quieten down, as far as I can see Cryptic may not have brought out the most finished MMO in history but more content is on its way and they have stated as such, its barely been a month.

Can't remember who said it but Single Player games are like movies they have one story to tell in a short amount of time, but a MMO is like a TV series is adding new things with every episode and if you enjoy it you get addicted to the show, unless the writing ends up 'jumping the shark'

IMO STO is like Caprica not sure at first but it has grown on me.

Why plightsar? The people that have cancelled have still paid the money for the game initially. A lot of whom pre-ordered and subbed for a year or lifetime. I'm extremely angry that I paid £40 for 30 days, when I could have waited and got 90 days for less.

The problem with those forums is Cryptic seem incapable of managing them well, and are just making people more angry.

It seems Atari are going to honour the deal for those that bought the game over the weekend. The deal itself as most already know was pulled sharpish.

Too late to stop the flame war though its going on grand style. I notice though that there are a few campaigners actively seeking to generate hate as widely as they can (not referring to anyone on FH).

May sound a odd question but £40? I paid £24.99 from HMV they don't seem to bad for PC game pricing at the moment and that was for the Gold Edition with the DS9 uniform with artcards and T-Shirt. But going back to your question, if I have bought a game and don't like it, I wouldn't go out of my way to hog up the said games forums with hate, I would just move on the next game. Though I can understand lifer hate as thats alot of money to 'effectively' lose in one transaction if you are not happy playing it. Though you should be able to get your money back, can't remember alot of my business law but if you are not happy with a product and consider it unfinished or faulty on purchase you are well within your rights to ask for your money back. Laws could have changed it has been 8years since I studied it. Thats why I only paid for 6months so I can see if I still fancy playing it longterm, so it will only be £50 down the drain if I stopped playing which granted is the price of 2 PC games but not a great loss.

plightstar the download special editions were all around £40, that is what a LOT of people paid for, because of the extras they were giving.

Also, you seem to have money to burn giving your comments. You have to consider the economic climate, Cryptic have rushed a game to release, and are handling the customer service side of things shockingly at the moment.

Really are you that greedy you care about afew bucks or is it the fact that other ppl get something you didn't? Anyway Sto's main frustrations atm is pvp ques and it really need more endgame content.

Greedy? LOL

£40 is a lot of money, the free subs for 60 days extra is worth £20. That isn't money I'd happily throw away. A company that rewards new customers before existing customers, is not a company that will go far.

I wouldn't have pre-ordered and paid what I did if I had known that I could wait 3 weeks and get 90 days for the same price.

I'm still happy I got the lifetime. I couldn't care less whether someone gets 30 days or 90 days, mine's all bought and paid for, no more subs, blah blah blah.

And yes, Atari may have got the timing of their special offer wrong (making offer so soon after launch), but considering the amount of times I've bought something and the next day or a week later the same thing is 25/50% off, this really is no big deal.

I can see why some people have got their knickers in a twist, especially if you've just paid for the first sub, and then loads of people get an extra 2 months for 'free'.

I'm just glad I'm out of it.

Klingons don't queue for long, i personally never fvk, always kvk, it's a lot more fun and it's balanced and from what i have seen, many klingons seem to agree. Usually i get pvp instance pops within a minute of flagging, 5 minutes is a long wait.

FvF would help solve the problem, there are plenty of instances of fed v fed in the lore, so it's not a massive stretch of the imagination to include it.

How you finding the pvp pops? Better than fed?

Level 12.99 atm and the ques are like 1-3minutes really fun imo.
Bird of pray's are like "glass cannons" are all about also really bad survivability and great offence. Even more so then the federation escorts.

Latest Notes are out - Star Trek Online

They've released the first Task Force mission, which doesn't allow BO's on the ground portion of the mission, thus needing 5 PC's to do. Are we up for this?

On a different note (if we're up for the TF missions), I need a new headset & mic for Vent, cause I managed to break the last one.

Glad your enjoying it, personally i don't think i'll ever play fed again.

What i enjoy about the kvk space pvp is that as a BoP i wind up switching targets a lot to exploit my high frontal DPS, so im constantly hunting for a damaged enemy or one manouvering badly i can rip into. As a fed you just target something and hit spacebar and your effective, in kvk you have to be a lot smarter i found and kvk has a lot of flanking and out-manouvering actions.

KvF is just too easy for a co-ordinated fleet, uncloak and they die one by one....usually before they even get a target lock on any of you.
