As far as I know Skyrim doesn't use DX11 (I may be wrong) so it shouldn't matter. The game engine is very good indeed, with only rare graphical glitches now and again, usually after prolonged play so there may be some sort of memory leak somewhere. A restart and it sorts itself out.

That's correct. It's DX9 only which is one reason it runs so well on older hardware. Even my older PC can run it on High without too much trouble.

You have DirectX11 is it? whilst I still have DirectX10 ( i think, I might be wrong )

Because when I was looking at BF3, the identical graphics card but with the new name was 'reccomended' but mine wasn't purely because I was running the wrong DirextX, and my shaders were 1 off.
Nope, the 4850 runs on DX10.1. Skyrim is a game primarily made for consoles with very limited memory, it's going to run on pretty much anything built for gaming in the last 3-4 years, and look great while doing it.

Ahh lovely, yeh was more thinking of a nerd day where I can have it on my PC playing and then FM blasting away on my laptop :D.

Sounds good, looking forward too having a go.. any recommended class for a newb?
A shield warrior is probably the "easy" way to go. As for me, I am more the stealthy rogue guy who kills the enemies before they can even notice me.

Whatever will smash and bash stuff to bits whilst being able to wear and use cool stuff is fun to me. :D.

Works fine on my 3 year old PC. Pretty much everything maxed. It's a very good engine.

Wife is umm'ing and arrr'ing over whether to grab it for the PC or the PS3 (i'm kinda tempted myself ...which is not like me tbh) ...PC being the ideal (mods, mouse preferred etc.) but don't wanna have to compromise too savagely on the purtys.

She's got a dual core intel 2.4ghz and a Nvidia 9600 GT - reckon that'll handle it ok?

It should work fine with that, not much different from mine.

Finished it after 70h and did all main story, all the faction(guild) quests and ended at lv45, and still missed a massive chunk of the content. No clue how someone managed this in 28 hours without a guide or playing easy difficulty setting lol

Level 12 Sword'n'board Nord. It's fun. Runs smooth on my 3.4ghz AMD quad core, 8GB RAM and Sapphire 6950. I do get a bit of graphics lag sometimes, not sure why. Same happened in Fallout 3 sometimes.
Skyrim is fun, a bit intimidating in all its vastness. Oh, look a butterfly, I must have its wings. I need to go to retrieve some horn. Oh, look, a cave entrance. Side track, side track from the side track. But it's fun.
Early xmas present for myself. And I haven't even finished Fallout 3 yet. :(

You can put it on master difficulty in the settings, makes some monsters able to 2 shot you. But yeah the uber weapons make it pretty easy going. Might try fisting it next time! FISTS OF FURY!
uhm on the "standard" difficulty thoose forsworn briar "something" have a tendancy to just one shot you sometimes... :)

well it looks pretty darn good for that tbh. I was messing with the light falloff distance and specular doohdadsettings and you can make a slight distance fade that looks exactly like UV scatter on a hazy day. awesomeness!

yeah I had that too when I was trying to kill them with low spec weaps. nowadays I only have to make sure there aren't more than a couple Draugr Scourges about. that was a pantsfilling moment I kid you not 0o

I didn't realise until the end of the game that you have to buy the other shouts by pressing R. GAY

I tried to kill the guy in the mine before I escaped on Master difficulty, it doesn't work very well. Had to change the settings to get him down, then when I got out I decapitated the guy that gave me the ring. Job done :D

Is there a secret to killing falmers? I had to lower the difficulty in Chillwind Depths because whenever more than 1 got on me i got destroyed.

They hurt like hell, the arrows for some reason got me most of the time. Shouting Unrelenting Winds at them helps. Just try to finish them quickly.

Sneak + bow x3 sneak dmg.. :) And lately i tend to park my companions at the entrance since they tend to charge in and pull way to much to handle..
