How is that the fault of the EU though?

The impression I get is that British fishing doesn't want to be competitive, which I totally support, but when we live in a capitalistic world, that's hardly going to work.
Plenty of fishermen would disagree.

the ability to sign up to what we want to internationally.

to control the resources in our part of the world. That sort of thing

Anybody with any trade deals anywhere, doesn't have a free hand to do what they want. Being in the WTO means you can't do what you want. And most critically, if you elect a bunch of cunts who would rather sell the resources in your part of the world for the highest bidder to exploit rather than support local industry, then your "sovereignty" will do you no fucking good whatsoever.

A lotof the smaller boats out of places like Looe are getting caned cause the quotas are auctioned or sold off to the highest bidder which is the super trawler guys cause they have all the money.

if you watched the cornish fisheries series on bbc2 i think it was you see they cant get a quota allocated to new small boats as all those super trawlers are buying them all and the ports are dying.
so yes keep the europeans out of our waters and ban super trawlers.

Tories. Youre really not paying attention are you?

Like i said we get to choose which we sign up to. Obviously we have signed up to the wto. So minimums we get are wto tariffs.

As DaGaffer said, the small fishers are even worse off now than before, turns out closing access to their biggest market was not a smart move, no one could have predicted that...

And yes ban supertrawlers

Like to see how this works out:

The government said the announcement would not "signal a return to the failed 1970s approach of government picking winners or bailing out unsustainable companies

How does a process of distributing funds to companies work without government "picking winners"?

It sounds like a cronies charter - Tories'll be legally allowed to funnel public money towards their mates.

As opposed to now when it might not be legal but no-one does anything about it anyway.

At least it makes the papers as officially is a "bad thing" as it stands today.

What's that? The blank slate of Brexit is being painted blue? Well I never.

We should have much more of a say in how post Brexit Britain is going to look. But as I said all along it'll be by the Tories for the Tories and for as long as they can.

That's why I held the Lexiteers in such low regard. The idea that once freed from EU law the UK would use its new freedom to create a socialist paradise was too ridiculous for words.

Regardless, this is exactly what most of us remainers thought would happen after Brexit. Tory rule with fewer shackles from supra-national bodies. Erosion of constitutional norms. Etc...

Be nice to see the brexiteers on here defend that they weren't told what would happen or that it is all just "scaremongering" - when we've evidence on this very forum that they were indeed told what would happen and now it's happening their scaremongering excuse is also shot to bits.

@Embattle, for example? Care to comment?

It'll just be a post about how much of a cunt you are @Scouse let's be honest, that's the usual response or obviously a muted facepalm.

How about this @Embattle? Yet another environmental backpeddle. The Tories are chaning the definition of what's endangered now we're free of the EU - so the "race to the bottom" in environmental standards is well and truly underway.

So, cronyism, lowering of standards across the board and a race to the bottom on environmental standards (to help Tory donors) with state aid.

All of the things we were "scaremongering" about - coming home to roost.

Care to comment?

Who knew leaving the EU would mean UK countries/territories might face supply chain issues.

Fuck. If only people read before voting :(

Just tried to order a £10 saddle cover from Brooks "England".

Minimum order due to Brexit - £135. Because Brooks "England" is actually Brooks "Italy" these days.

They still call it Brooks "England" though.

They are also lying on their website. There is no such thing as a regulation that dictates minimum order value. Shop elsewhere.

It was probably always "Brooks" Italy.

They're not lying - they're not saying there's a specific Brexit regulation that says they have to have a minimum order value, they're saying that due to the Brexit regulations (customs charges etc), they're not prepared to fanny about with orders worth less than £135. Paperwork on their end, unexpected charges on the customer's end... it doesn't seem like a very clever strategy (you'd think a company trying to paint itself as "English" would've long since set up UK-based distribution and avoid all of this) but they obviously made a judgment call that it's better to be upfront with their customers and frankly it's their business, they can do what they like.

Honestly I wonder if I could make an official complaint about it. I know you're not allowed to use words like Royal in your company name without permission, I wonder if the same is true for misrepresenting themselves in this way.

Brooks have been making saddles since the 19th century btw, they were British for a very long time.

It looks like they were bought by an Italian company (Selle Royal) in 2002 but they kept the Englishness of it because of the history of the company. Within the EU it didn't matter a toss but now suddenly it's going to be an issue for them.

Edit - They actually stopped shipping to the UK altogether earlier in the year before coming up with this minimum order plan. They actually make them in the West Midlands and then ship them to Italy to be distributed. :|

It's almost as if they didn't bother adapting to Brexit if they still manufacture in the UK but can't sell to the UK...for "reasons"

I wouldn't worry too much, if their workmanship is anything like their management :)

Lots of outright falsehoods in that "news" report too. Not even worth picking it apart (as someone whos job is importing millions of pounds worth of stuff into the UK)
