Meh. I think nationalism is perfectly fine so long as it is not extreme, or at least not used as something to beat "outsiders" with.

You can be proud of your heritage and not be an arsehole about it. You can be proud of your countries contributions to the world (of which we have many) without thinking you are better than others because of it, or that you personally contributed to any of it.

But anyway. My point stands. Scottish nationalism is acceptable for many, many people, the consensus. Whereas if you even hint at any sort of pride in England people treat you like you stabbed their newborn.

Hehe maybe. The only angry person there seemed to be a sky-fairy-believer who seemed compelled to tell everyone waiting that they should vote for the baby jebus party. Central Arnhem is generally fairly chilled. Historical votes here were (in) order PvdA (labour), VVD (rich people) and SP (Socialist lefties).

No, I never said that.

the 51% would have never have happened if it wasn't for the people that saw people that spoke a different language so therefore knee-jerk reacted to leave the EU. They probably have never heard of Brussels or even the EU (see google search results on the day) prior to the referendum. Let alone understand the 'other' arguments apart from immigration.

Where as Scotland isn't anti-immigration (which is the point here) they're anti-English, and for a good reason (according to the Brexiteers anyway) because they're being told what to do by a bunch of people who they didn't vote for?

Scotland leaving the UK = anti-English/Westminster thing would disappear due to them not being told what to do anymore.

UK leaving the EU = anti-Immigration won't end because there won't be any change, we'll just have more brown folk, not white.

Not really. The sea level rise in the last half century has tipped the scales at a mates house in Barmouth to the point that when there's low pressure and an onshore wind there's enough of a tidal rise at spring tide that flooding has very recently started to occur.

Historically it's never happened where he is and the council is in two minds on whether they're going to abandon those houses to their future fate or spend the money on flood defence improvements.

Either way, it's a very real situation for him.
