Actually contemplating that if i buy the game maybe to roll on a pvp server.

Think i'l try one on the next beta event and see how it is.

As I couldn't pvp my way out of a wet paper bag I will be avoiding the pvp servers but I might have the odd dabble into pvp on a pve server - I don't object to pvp but I am rubbish at it :)
I was on Steampike server last beta and am sure at some point I saw Gwadien talking in general; saw some guy called Dacovale too, name rings a bell from Warhammer :p

Yeah, you probably did mate, was probably just chatting shit as per usual, PvEing is pretty boring, hence why I'm rolling PvP ;)

soo... can anybody give me some info?:p
was too late for 6th beta.. but will probally end up playing open beta.

So there are 4 classes. (Warrior, Rogue, Mage and cleric)

Each class has about 5 or 6 trees that they can train. And each tree has a different name.

So as wizzards stands to earth/fire/ice, a mage stands to dominator..etc. ?

The more points u spec in one, the fewer u can in others and by training more in 1 tree u get newer and better abilitys... correct?

Then there are the builds... should one go max in one tree or definitly devide? or is this upto the group build?

Then there's the pve /pvp servers..
now tbh.. i havent gotten a picture of this because i havent played it yet.

title is obvious but then again it differs per game.

Right then
There's 4 main classes, Rogue, Mage, Cleric, Warrior.. As you can probably guess;
Rogue - Assassin/Bows/Guns/Bard(minor heals interupts etc, similar to a DAoC bard)
Mage - DPS/Rupts/Annoying shit
Cleric - Healing, can do MDPS/RDPS/Debuffs/Buffs, varies with specs.
Warrior - Hardcore tank, or a light MDPS, hits like a truck, but can also take a beating

Souls
For arguements sake, let's be a Rogue, initially, during first what, 5 levels, you can pick up to 3 souls, where you spec into them, - For example, much like DAoC, you can multi-spec, and have a good array of skills, or Single spec, then you're ubah in that single spec, each spec obviously has their advantages/disadvantages

Roles
You then have the Roles, which you can have up to 4, you get these by visiting your trainer, and then buying them off them, - increasing cost higher you get.. The idea of a Role is that you can have 4 different sets of combinations of the 3 souls, but you can also do quests within the 'capital' to gain the souls, so effectively, you can have all 8 souls? ( Think it's 8, correct me if I'm wrong ) but can only use 3 per Role, So for example, you can be a Heavy tank one minute, change your role ( which is like a 10 second cast ) and then you're a dual wielding DPS machine

Training in general
When you level, you can instantly level your 'Soul tree' by clicking on the little logo on the bottom left, and clicking on which ever soul you wish to increase on, When you level up a certain amount in a particular soul, you'll get a 'class ability', again, for arguements sake, I put 4 into 'Decrease in incoming damage by 2%', and then when i put 4 in, it unlocks a skill (This'll make sense if you have a quick look here) Also, when you level up, you need to go to visit your trainer to 'level up' the abilities that you already have..

PVE
As with any other game, there's the option of grinding or doing quests, RIFT also brings in a new type of PvE called Rifts and Invasions, Basically, as the game is based on, a Rift will blast through the sky, and bringing down monsters and tasks, as a group, you can kill the mobs, close the rift, you get a decent amount of XP, and you also get drops and a currency which you can spend on special items...

PVP
I've only had a quick look at PvP atm, and that's in Warfronts, or Scenairos if you're a ex WAR player... basically the same sort-of thing as WAR, Capture the flag, etc..

Why am I playing a PvP server?
Frankly, because I've always played on PvE servers, and I've always found leveling up constantly quite boring, and RIFT seems to offer some fun with PvP especially if you're in a good organised guild...

I hope you've found this helpful mate :) feel free to ask anything else :p

mmm I still have some doubts mostly in end game and on pvp, so far what i have seen (lvl 20) has been good, but the more i lvl the more I see the unbalance of classes in special the racial abilities (i am playing guardian) at the moment defiance have really good racial abilities/ buffs over guardians and in some cases it makes it not only really annoying but stupid. From what i have seen and experience rangers are way too overpowered since they can kite almost any class they want.
So I am still undecided whether I will play on past the free month hopefully this will give me enough time to reach max lvl and see the end game pve and pvp wise this game has to offer

The Racials completely got changed last beta mate, - stuff like the dwarfs take less damage from falling, the Humanoid thing on Gaurdian get 15%+ speed for 10 seconds or so, balances all the races out really, but doesn't make a huge difference like it used to mate :)

I quite like this so far,

pre-ordered the game so im set for early start, first instinct was to go pvp server but it sounds like it could turn into a pure gankfest, i dont have the time i used to so i will be laggin behind and it sounds like after lvls 20? youre pretty much open to be ganked anywhere that youre leveling, this correct?

there was talk about some sort of frontier type pvp available at max lvl on both pve and pvp servers, anyone know anything about this? if thats correct it sounds like the pve server would be more like daoc normal servers and would be my best chance.

I didn't like vanilla-wow, but I like rift I guess I belive there will be something meaning full at the endgame pvp. Rift is basicly a wow clone as many pointed out to me at lowlevel... it looks the same... solo questing.. items are even the same ... your character looks the same.

But wow never had good pvp, no open zone pvp worth mentioning and the unique thing that rift have is you can be both tank/healer/cc/dps/whatever.. Just pick a base class and figure out where you wanna go from there.

I really, really don't get the comparison with WoW. Saying that solo questing is similar is, I suppose, fair enough but on the other hand, what game have you played since DAoC that didn't have that as an option for progression?

We leveled as a 5 man, mostly grinding/questing but once we realised it was so good we spent all our time in dungeons since it was amazing xp.

The thing I absolutely hated about vanilla WoW was the whole aspect of feeling like you had to level alone, you CAN do that in Rift but there are many other options too.

The Rifts seem to work like Public Quests in WAR (which was an enjoyable feature btw)

They do, but are more dynamic in the way that they pop up all over the place in various shapes and sizes.

However, they aren't as scripted - for good or bad.

Also, they don't vary as much as a PQ would on WAR, it's generally just 'kill this' unlike Warhammer where occasionally, there was some good battles etc, and each PQ had its own little story line :)

Storyline sure, but you can't say they had a variation other then that.

always 3 stages, always a end boss to kill...

and the good battles in Rift doesn't come AT the rifts, they are at the "towns" where the mobs zerg to. Last session we had mobs from all 4 planes zerg the same quest hub. the chaos that ensued lasted for a good hour with mobs fighting eachother and us stuck in between.

I forgot to take screenshots but at one point i think there were about 50 or so elites fighting there against 30 odd players.

Yeah, You have a good point there, and imagine on a PvP server, guessing you can see if a enemy is getting invaded or RIFTS in the area, I think PVP would work well, because a invasion/rift would draw goodies and baddies to the same location cause huge PvP/PvE fights at the same time, I can't wait for this game!

Its 7.6gb.

Are there any oldskool DAoC guilds rolling on Rift? (oldskool, as in before Fails of Atlantis)

Vengeance will be making a small showing on the Sagespire server on the realm of Defiance.. (assuming server names stay the same)

Our guild is at least comprised of people from 'oldskool' DAoC guilds - PE/RR/NP/Satori etc.

Server names won't stay the same as far as I know. I'm hoping that like-minded guilds will find a way to co-ordinate on server rolling, but I'm pretty down-beat on the list of 'PvP guilds' that are banding together to roll together on the official forums - mostly guilds I've either never heard of or know to be bad/zergers.
