Wii is a dead console to any gamer I know. Mine has lived at my GF's flat for months now and I can't say I have missed it.

The PS3 is expensive. If the next XBOX comes with some form of Blu-Ray drive as well, most of the technical advantages PS3 has will be dead in the water. Unless Microsoft does something funny like because HD-DVD is dead in the marketplace buy the rights to it and use that in an effort to fuck up game copying for a while.

Add the cheapest bluray player you can find to to go with the xbox and 2 years xbox live subs and suddenly the PS3 is much much cheaper.

PSN premium as far as we know it are the tv channels and media content, possibly some premium dedicated servers

I own all 3 and would not sell my ps3 or 360, they are neck and neck tbh
PS3 has had more playtime since i got demon souls and god of war

thing is mate, in reality so long as you get the public dedi's and gaming
plus maybe some community aspects (messaging and so on), would it really bother you whether you get the 'premium' content (it stands to reason high bandwidth stuff is charged a little more for)?
They will never force you to get premium to buy content as its very counter-productive and they would lose revenue and in all its history they have never charged for online gaming altogether

If you want the media content and sky tv you need a premium subscription too so it's not really different at all.

I find these discussions really silly, as a 360 is not cheaper than a ps3 to be very honest if you like games and play them often
i would say mine has cost me more in the long run with all the 'addons' ableit through my ignorance and laziness but the average punter has probably made the same mistake

offical charge packs, broke within a few months of reasonable usage (replaced with just a charger and some good batteries)
hdd upgrade to 120gb after install to hd games (be honest the load times are ridiculous now, halo reach for example is not exactly the most amazing game graphically but took a long time to load without install to drive)

sky tv addon

If you want the full gaming experience and play the great games in reality you need both platforms (although alot of the 360 titiles get re-released on pc admitedly), it is sheer ignorance to claim otherwise

No, I didn't. Blu-ray isn't required to play games, so that's a bullshit point. Even if you add live in the 360 is still cheaper. By the way, I don't have a gold live subscription before you go there. For reference I bolded the "more expensive" figure for you.

Actually BD is required to play games on the ps3 as that is the media it uses. It also means storage is far larger, no need for disk swaps or higher compression.

You cannot ignore BD on the ps3 and you cannot ignore LIVE sub costs on 360, both are essential to the use of the console - a 360 without MP gaming is a poor substitute for a gaming console.

I personally just find the whole online experience on the PS3 very dull, the interface etc just seems very old and needs freshening up a bit.

To be honest since we bought a Samsung blu ray player 2 months ago the PS3 hasn't been used at all.

Basically the way i see it atm is the Xbox 360 is having it's PS2 era where games are coming out left right and centre, theres constant marketing for almost every big release game via adverts on tele and the cinema. These days you can't see a film at the cinema without an 360 advert showing.

I really hope we see another Xbox soon they have the online platform built and LIVE just gets better and better in my opinion, whenever you log on you get that connected experience with your friends which is what i love about the 360 and in my opinion it's what sets the two consoles apart.

Lets try again, just because Blu-Ray is required on the PS3 doesn't mean you'd be required to buy one alongside a 360 to do an accurate price comparison. Also if you have no broadband, guess what... you can still use both consoles!

Really? I always keep up with new releases to see if it's yet worth buying a 360 or Wii, and I don't see much coming out only for the 360. What has there been this year that I can't play on my PC, other than Alan Wake?

At this point I'm more likely to buy a Wii just for Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 than I am a 360.

LOL, myself and ECA are two of the few people on this thread that aren't bringing their fanboi baggage with them. BD is built into the PS3, both consoles need an online connection to utilise them properly. I know of no 360 owners without a live subscription, the best 360 games are all MP. When you compare the costs then neither is more expensive than the other. 360 will cost more over a lifetime.

I think MS need to review the cost of their console, it's in the last few years of it's lifespan. HD tv's are in more homes and people will be more tempted by a console + BD solution. They should do away with the two tier pricing and just have the elite console at a £150 price point.

I've always playing more games on my 360, but no release has made me want to buy it recently. Whereas on the ps3 I've got Demon souls, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 waiting for me to have money.

With regards to BD and price at launch; in my opinion the PS3 was just too good at launch which made it prohibitively expensive for mass public pickup. Enter MS with aggressive pricing and (eventually) cut spec machines (no wireless, no bluray, no internal PSU, smaller / no hard disks - cheaper to manufacture and sell) and it was a bit of a no brainer.

If Sony had been quicker to respond, perhaps they would have brought out a similar cut price model (which you could say was the slim). The PS3 was / is an awesome piece of kit, it was just too ahead / expensive that made it lag behind for years.

However, it did what it was meant to do; it got mass pickup of blu-ray and won a format war.

Well said G. The PS3 was about giving Sony a future revenue stream based on a format, not about being a gaming console or delivering on what they promised to include. They've lost this round of the console war but the battle goes on.

I don't necessarily agree they lost this round of the console wars, I never subscribe to the "more sales = better / won" stance.

The Toyota Corolla is the biggest selling car in the world, it doesn't make it better than a BMW M3 which sells fuck all in comparison, but it gets you from A to B in exactly the same way.

The 360 has an awesome catalogue of games to buy right now if your just going to buy a 360 and i think any new 360 owner would struggle to find the time to get through them anytime soon.

Yes Alan Wake is awesome and also Crack Down 2 next month which is the sequal to easily one of the best 360 games to come out in it's time but many bought it just for the Halo 3 beta test.

The only Live use I've had is from a month trial here and there that came with games, every time I've used it for a few days and gotten incredibly bored. Net gaming on a console blows, quite frankly.
