I'm struggling to think what more the 360 and PS3 can offer other than more horsepower, I suppose MS could fit a blu-ray drive and that would seriously put the shitters up Sony. Better internet support / integration? Video conferencing / phoning? More 'living room' friendly? Guesses?

With Sony catching up (albeit slowly) with psn, MS really need to consider their pricing model for LIVE. I'd say more horsepower, better media server functionality, blu-ray, and a quiet console would be needed. They would have to make sure it is backwards compatible though, or no one would touch it.

I had a quick google there and there is an interesting school of thought that the blu-ray drive would get binned from the PS4 because it's an expensive part plus we're moving into a world of large disks, big broadband and downloadable content. If the PS4 was to succeed then it'll need to keep cost under control and focus itself as a games machine.

Personally, I don't see it, I'm still going to want to go into Game and buy a physical disk much like movies. Maybe eventually, but not the next gen.

One thing that i hated about the Wii is friends telling me its the cheap option. The bird wanted one for friends ect buying Wii Fit and 3 extra controllers was nearly £150 it is not a cheap machine at all.

That's what bugs me about the PS3 price argument - "oh it's so expensive!", it's £70 or so dearer than a basic Wii - and the Xbox 360 Elite specced to the same level as a PS3 (minus blu-ray) after buying a wireless dongle and one year Gold membership works out to be pretty much the same price as the PS3 slim (£249.99).

Personally I thought it was average at best, you PS3 owners seem to get a real boner over some distinctly average stuff. Resistance 1 and 2, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm? I wouldn't give any of them a score above 75%.

yep, and Uncharted was an amazing gaming experience cho, I haven't played 2 yet, but everything suggests that it is even better.

Exclusive or not, Uncharted 1 was great and Uncharted 2 was super, but it wasn't without it's little flaws and criticisms which I mentioned on the dedicated thread; much more involving and enjoyable than CoD MW for sure (although I'm really beginning to enjoy that too).

I am being honest bud, I own both consoles and so far the top rated PS3 games I have played have disappointed greatly. I am just glad that God of War 3 is on the horizon and the PS3 is a terrific media player.

I have a PS3 and only really play tiger woods golf on it, everything else feels like a step backwards, but then I have a decent PC so anything cross platform gets bought on that. I use it a lot as a media centre for streaming stuff from my PC, I-player and watching blue rays. It gets used more for that than gaming. I have not played uncharted 2 yet, waiting for my mate to finish it so I can borrow it.

There are a few games on the horizon but it feels like they have been on that horizon for years.

Thing with console downloads is you can't take a download round to your mates. From my youth that was always a massive part of the whole experience.

With Xbox live if you sign in with your username on their machine (takes around 10 minutes) then download the game it comes with all your details, saves etc. Thats xbox live games btw. Or else just take your HDD like we sometimes do with rock band etc as all the songs are on one HDD, we have 4 xbox consoles in our house.

Not sure how PS3 does it but im sure there is a way to do it

Sparx, the games you buy are linked to not only your live account but also your console. AFAIK if you download them to one console you cannot re-download to another, even if you use your details.

Yes you can. I do it all the time, its linked to your user account, if you upload your account to their console you can play it, doesnt mean they can play it when they log back in on their account. Its just the same as changing accounts on the one console. Save games dont show.

We've been doing it for years with games like geometry wars etc when we are round someone elses house

You have to go through the ten minute thing when it searches for your account though, it even brings across your theme etc too

Erm, I'm pretty sure it doesn't download your save game files. Maybe achievement progress but definately not saved game progress.

there forums out there where peeps split the cost of game on psn, say X game is retailing @ £25 each punter paypals the orignal purchaser £5 they have effectivly and each download it. its risky but peeps are doing it.

I will give you some credit here

It's probably more accurate to see what titles people are buying to interpret console strength rather than installed base and/or sales.

US Statistics from this week:

Xbox - Red Dead Redemption 549,408
PS3 - Red Dead Redemption 297,381


It's a shame there are no easily obtainable european sales charts, as the PS3 definately did better here initially than the US.
