What's with the crappy 20Mbit upload with the 330Mbit download?

The latest generation of Internet services (cloud storage/backup) depend on improved upload. Are we going to have to wait for BT to do yet more upgrades before symmetric FTTP becomes standard?

Most people don't need symmetric connections.

Most people using facebook masheens don't need more than 256k :/

As I said for the small amount of Data i sync to Dropbox or Sky Drive I do not need 300MB up I do not need anywhere near it so a cheaper service with 20MB up would make me very happy.

They will never offer a cheap solution with great upload speeds as it will erode on their higher business end connections.

Presumably it factors in the cost of bandwidth? I'd imagine if you've got people pulling shit in that doesn't matter so much because you can introduce caches into your own network and lessen costs but if I'm uploading something to someone in the US then presumably they get a bill somewhere along the line.

With torrents and servers and whatnot running at the same time... had worse results when traffic was routed domestic (to stockholm)

just swapped over to BT from TalkTalk (engineer has literally just gone) speed atm is Download Speed: 47125 kbps (5890.6 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 12434 kbps (1554.3 KB/sec ) - hopefully that will change in the 10 days of training as the estimate I was given was 66.8mb/s down and 17mb/s up.

Surely that's your production network? Isn't it a bit daft to use the same link for prod kit and office shenanigans?

We have more than 1 x 1Gbit feed you know, lots more :) Though with Deebs pr0n leeching I guess I'll have to dedicate an entire link just for him.

Yeah, works for me.

Wow, didn't expect to see that in the UK. Was expecting Denmark or something. I am just happy Virgin upgraded me from 10 to 30 FOC, but after seeing other peoples connection I want more.

One of the Schools we support in Essex have speed which is limited by the network card on the servers. They are stingy bastards though MAC address filtering which means I could not test my NZB server :)

Direct connection was identical except for 16.23mbs down, (router is next to laptop anyway)

Mine's shockingly slow (not bothered with a speed test, would take a week to connect to the server)
