So it syncs at 20Mb/s but you really get 1.9Mb/s.

So it syncs at 1.5Mb/s but you really get 1.5Mb/s

Not much in it. You might be closer to the exchange but who knows how many laps of the country the cable does before it gets to the exchange :D

Hmm. If by syncing you mean the connection speed then yes. What I mean is my actualy download speed here is 1.9Mb/s on a 20Mb/s connection. Whereas at my new place it syncs at 1.5Mb/s and I only get 150-170Kb/s download speed.

Oh that explains it. AD's ex syncs are 20Mbit/s, can download at 1.9MB/s (1.9 * 8 = 15.2Mb/s). You're syncing at 1.5Mbit/s, can download at 170KB/s (170 / 1024 * 8 = 1.3Mb/s).

I was reading that how it was written, i.e. syncing at 20Mbit/s and downloading at 1.9Mbit/s, implying massive contention in the exchange / ISP with shit network

Didn't know there was a difference when writing it down. In that case then yes. Connection Speed/Sync is at 20MB/s here with actual D/L speed of 1.9MB/s. Other place, sync is 1.5MB/s with D/L speed of 150-170KB/s.

Hopefully when I go back to check it'll be sorted out.

We're being offered BT Infinity should we go for it? A bit concerned that you have to change router and the one I've got was a nightmare to set up don't want problems again.

Do you need faster tubes? Is free cheaper than your current connection / are you happy that what you have is reliable, cheap enough and fast enough? :)

Infinity has another speed upgrade coming, from 80/20 to 110/30, not sure when the mass switch happens.

Jesus christ, who would have thought we'd have decent internet in the uk?

Mine is pencilled in for september...... cannot arrive soon enough...

heh, paying for 15 mbit download here and getting

I love Telia... :)

You must be the single youth in an elderly complex/society utilising the connection.

Would be able to get 1k mbit/sec, but damned expensive it would be.

Are plusnet and adsl24 any good for fibre optic broadband?

how about Bt? I'm a bit concerned about going with BT as I like to download lots of stuff and I don't want my speed capped or managed. Do they do this or is it unlimited as they claim?

EVERYONE except sky and talktalk are simply reselling bts package, it makes NO difference whatsoever.

sky and talktalk are using gea ( generic ethernet access ) - bt handles your line/fiber connection and they basically plug an ethernet into skys box at the exchange and offload you there - so if you think sky/talktalk use less traffic shaping than bt then go right ahead :p I would expect more.

Until be start offering a GEA service you're probably better off on BT.

That's what I thought. I think I may well go with BT. Will be sad to leave BE as they have been excellent.

Onwards to mega speeds!!

18 months contract though....

I was meaning, to get all that speed out of such a connection, would require noone else to use the connection around the Telia connection hub.
It's odd yeah. I've told Telia about it but they claim i'm set up properly on their end.

That said, i'm never getting any where near that speed when i actually download something (12 - 15 mb/sec tops). So i don't know how trustworthy those speed tests actually are..

I've had FTTC Infinity for about 18 months now. I must say despite the initial trepidation of returning to BT after having O2, Sky, and Telewest (At previous addresses) I must say I have generally been very impressed with the service. I do not use the BT standard Home Hub which I'm sure has quite a lot to do with general connection stability and reliability. The only thing has does slightly piss me off is their complete crippling of Torrent speeds during peak hours but I don't often use them so its not a massive problem.

Originally started with the 40Mb/10Mb service then BT were offering a free upgrade to 80Mb/20Mb (Decreased to 76Mb/18Mb due to Ofcom rules) unfortunately my line is too long to receive the full 76Mb but I still get approx 60Mb/20Mb sync.

Results for speedtest #1347112199
Date of Speed Test: 2012-09-08 14:49:59
Download Speed: 60567 kbps (7570.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 15392 kbps (1924 KB/sec transfer rate)

I don't mind Speedtest.net but I do prefer the Namesco one for more reliable and consistent results.
