No

I'm sorry, how does someone know if they are walking the line or not? Normally they are told - Clown was not told how close to the line he was. Thus he had no idea.

So your answer should be Yes

Their not a position to do so. This is a public forum and its not to be run by a bunch of tyranical halfwits who think they own the place.

I dont know the circumstances of why they were banned. But they did get banned.....unfortunately life isnt fair.

I am aware, however, that if they speak to the mod responsible for their banning they can come back.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but even Bodhi and cage. were given chances to come back but due to their actions after their original banning they killed their chances of coming back.

I dont see what the problem is really.

If you were banned for something so trivial as Clown was, you'd be a little miffed wouldn't you? Clown will be back, fortunately, but bodhi wasn't given the opportunity and cage didn't want to come back and I don't blame him really. He didn't care whatsoever.

You know what the rules are. Therefore you know what you can/cant do.

No, he wasn't. How many times is the word 'fuck' in this thread alone?

The issue appears to be that he wrote 'Fuck' in MSPaint instead of in the normal typing.

I looked in the T+C's and can't see that it mentions a distinction between the two *shrugs*.

There also, however seems to be a distinction drawn between different people who write the word 'Fuck' or a derivitive thereof, using paint or any other propriety graphical editing software, in the same thread.

It's hard for someone to know where the line might be, when it is this erratically wobbly.

yes I would be irritated. But I would have the chance of coming back which reduces the irritation.

I will have learned what I can write and what I cant.

I believe Bohdi was given a chance but he chose to be his usual self which ended that choice.

Well thats the idea beind moderation - but rules are there remove personal opinion and keep things equal. In this case, the rules have not been applied equaly to everyone.

Ummmmmm

<@bigfoot> the t&c's permit strong language but they also leave it solely to our discretion as to what is ban-worthy

So, if its ultimately upto the mods discretion - how do we know what the rules are? How do we know where the line is? Normally, they'd be a PM or an e-mail stating 'Youre getting close to a ban, watch it'

In Clowns case, there was nothing.

Your not making it easier for him to come back by causing a huge shit storm over it. Mods will dig heels in & the clown fella will be obliged to make some sort of statemnt when/if he returns thus generating more spam, swearing and banning. imo

The moderators own the forums?

Are you completely sure about that?

I think the shit storm as you put it might actually generate something.

It's flagging up how unfair to an individual the current interpretations of the T+C's are, and also the appalling procedures in place for dealing with perceived breaches.

I understand a Code of Conduct is currently being drawn up to prevent this sort of thing happening again.

In the meantime I would expect everyone who writes a swear word using graphical software will be banned instantly and without warning.....

Own it or not, u cant proclaim that you're banning someone because of a breach T+C's, when you cant make up your mind when they apply.

Mods will allways have their favourites especially when everyone mixes on an IRC channel as well. Also there will always be Martyrs & people who are made an example of.

Try not to be in the last two and you'll be fine.

Even the people who you complained were taking the pirate thing too far kept off my sensible discussion threads. Also if I didnt close it, mine would have become one of the main threads that the silly twats overtook with their new accounts.

Even if that means the rules which the mods are supposed to abide by become worthless?

They are only human. They do a tough job trying to keep things together on a board like this. Sometimes they make bad decision but by hugely publicising them you just make it harder for them to put them right.

You said the people who run this place.

The moderators dont run this place. They moderate for the people who run this place.

Heh, fair point well made.

Better rush off to one of the other game.net forums where they're still enabled to test the theory then eh?

Or not, of course.

Im sure it does, but thats too bad. If they dont follow their own rules then this kind of thing will happen, and its simply not on to punish the innocent (or let the guilty go free) because of an inderviduals ego.
