Using the stock browser on villains 10.3 and holy smokes is it fast. Feels like a desire, though typing this is a *little* bit sluggish. Still, top stuff.

Do any phones have 2 sims in them? I've just been thinking that would be a great idea, then you don't really need a work and a personal phone.

Nate, there are phones that allow for 2 SIMs to be inside them but there are a couple of problems with them generally.
1) They're almost always cheap and from China. Make of that what you will.
2) They're usually unregulated meaning they're not guaranteed to work on your country's networks.

You can however have 2 SIMs in 1 phone safely with a dual SIM ghost adapter. The best on the market is probably Simore's Platinum adapater (at almost €70) because that one allows for full 3G/HSDPA use as well. You can't use both SIMs simultaneously but you can switch from one to the other in a few seconds.

The cheap and cheerful adapters from eBay also allow for switching between 2 SIMs but generally can't work with 3G data, only GPRS.

The other problem that puts most people off is the need to cut the chip from their SIM to effectively make a microSIM. You get a couple of spare adapters to allow them to be use in normal phones again if you want.

Good isn't it :D, makes me think that unless you reallllllly need the Desire then the HTC Legend with it's aluminium billet body might be more sexy.

It's a pretty silly decision, especially as even Intel (the other MeeGo partner) are supporting android now (they are porting it to x86). I thought they were all about the common OS for phones anyway (see symbian).

Samsung's own linux OS makes even less sense, they make android phones!

Nokia has been doing their own phones and their own operating system for years, it would probably be impossible for them to consider it.

Don't want to start another thread so...

Contract is up in a few weeks, I want a phone that makes calls and texts and has some handy apps, I also want email and internet. Not interested in I-phones, is the HTC desire still the way to go? Do they have any other phones on the horizon?

Galaxy S from Samsung or the Desire. HTC are a phone making machine, they will have 3rd/4th quarter phones coming. The rumoured HD2 hardware running android perhaps.

Walk into your nearest phone shop and try out the following in your hand.
HTC Desire.
Samsung Galaxy S.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

Actually try them out. Not just fumble the demo unit.
They're all Android, all fast processor, and all good for phone/text/web/email.
It's down to personal preference how you like the handset or the system.
I prefer the SenseUI of the HTC Desire, while my wife prefers Timescape/Mediascape on her SE X10.
You might prefer the Galaxy. Who knows? :)

Yeah it's come out of nowhere all in 1 month really. Going to try a Froyo build today.

Only issue I find annoying is that text messages can only come in to 1 of the operating systems so if I happen to be in Android and get a text I can't then read that text when I boot WinMo. Everything else like contacts, music and pics are all ok though.

I hear a lot of people talk about data limits and the lack there of, I get 500 mb a month for £5 on O2, how on earth would I need more? Personally I have Wifi at home and Wifi at work but even without, is there really that much that you could use that much bandwidth for on a phone?

I used 121MB of data last month and that was a *normal* month.
Some browsing, some email checking, hourly weather updates, Google Docs, Latitude and LOTS of Google Maps/Navigation. That even included 4-5 music videos on Youtube.
Everything else is done on wifi at home

If you watch a lot of Youtube then it will EAT your data allowance up quickly. Of course you'd also be breaking your contract terms & conditions accessing streaming video. :)

There's one guy on the O2 forums who claims to have chewed through 30GB in a month. I personally don't believe it as O2 would pull the plug on data once he went much over a couple of gig.

Having more bandwidth and more generous data transfer limits can easily change the nature of how you use a connection.

You aren't going to want to watch many videos or stream audio all day with a 500MB limit. However if everyone was on a genuine unlimited connection then services like Spotify/Grooveshark could take advantage of being able to stream anywhere and anytime instead of you having to download a bunch of tracks for offline storage.

I guess so, I assume you can check how much you have used in a certain period to avoid going over the limit. Data allowances are not really something I give much thought to as I have always had unlimited at home. I will see how I get on over the first couple of months.

Anyway, my Galaxy should be delivered today, looking forward to drop kicking my LG Renoir down the garden :)

You can get data counter Apps to keep track. I use one called Data counter which counts for a month from the 20th and has a widget that shows me how much wifi and cell data i have used.

I got to play with a Samsung Galaxy S in Canary Wharf the other day, it's absolutely superb, prefer it over the Desire tbh.

It is indeed a lovely phone the one major problem though is the GPS it just doesn't work lol i switch it on when i'm out and it will show my position as much as 50 miles away from where i actually am heh.

I don't really use the GPS that often in a phone anyway but it's nice to know it's there as a backup imo.

Yeah great phone though the screen is just amazing and all the other little things like SWYPE which just makes texting a breeze now i'm really fast at texting on the QWERTY, just make it a really nice phone.

I believe this will be Samsungs flagship phone for sometime to come now so updates will be fast i think.

If you have a Desire and are thinking of selling i'd go for it as they are being snapped up on Ebay like no tomorrow at the moment, mine sold within hours of putting it up.

It's weird how polar I felt about the Samsung, I was very much "nope, don't like Samsung phones". I then picked one up and used it for 10 seconds - fan-fucking-tastic. The screen is truly awesome and (imo) way nicer than the iPhone 4's screen that Apple are l0rding about.

Same i've never owned a Samsung phone in my life and as far as i was concerned i never would not sure why it was just a big no no for me.

That changed when i saw a friends Galaxy and had a play instantly fell in love with it and put my Desire up around 2 hours later, a day later my unlocked Galaxy arrived from unlockedmobiles.co.uk.
