Yeah, I like it too, don't get every letter right, but usually the predictive text puts it right perfectly.

In other news those of us who cannot upgrade to a desire are one tiny step closer to Android 2.1.

I think the stock android keyboard is excellent...

Yep same here, I don't use Swype anymore just tap and go with the normal keyboard. I found Swype a pain to see the letters in bottom right and left corners when dragging my finger over the screen.

Good idea but it just wasn't for me.

Which other one's have you tried specifically? AS apart from Swype they are all gash, as is the stock desire one.

You were using it wrong. The point of swype is too type quickly, without concern for accuracy. You can correct errors faster at the end than you can by trying to hit the correct letter every time. Swype is generally very good at error correction, so by trying to be accurate yourself, you are slowing down your typing speed.

My brother just received his Samsung Galaxy S.

Really? Is it that good?

Never forget it is a Samsung though and Samsungs tend to end up with bad AIDS after a while.

The hardware may be great, but if previous samsung efforts are anything to go by, don't expect any software updates!

The screen is fucking amazing. Contrast and viewing angles are ridiculous. TouchWiz is better than Sense UI (this one shocked me), the transitions are all smooth (GPU accelerated). Bigger screen than the Desire, and the phone is a bit bigger, but it doesn't feel like it. It's thinner and lighter. It comes with a legit version of Swype.

The only thing going against it is no flash for the camera. Not something that I care about but some people will.

Are updates really important? It's not like HTC are actually much better in that regard.

That doesn't give all manufacturers an excuse just because HTC are fucking useless.

It's quite important. Some of the functionality which apps can use is dependent on which version of Android you're running. Google maps navigation needs Android 1.6 - using my HTC Hero as an example, if I hadn't rooted it and installed unofficial ROMs then I'd still be unable to use it as it would be stuck on 1.5.

I don't view a phone which originally cost £400 as a disposable device to be replaced when a new Android version comes out. I don't expect updates forever, but they need to provide new versions for a reasonable length of time as long as the hardware allows it.

I want to love the phone, and I want HTC to do the same. By providing updates quickly and efficiently they could've had me as a future customer for the next set of Android phones. Instead I'll stick to whatever Google comes up with as the next Google experience device.

AMOLED screens are amazing and Samsung really are leading the way. I have the same problem with Samsungs as i do with the Desire though i dont want a UI i love putting what i want where i want on android. There are widgets for just about everything you can want.

Samsung generally make the screens for a lot of other brands.

Updates are a selling point, this is esp true with the people who buy Android.

For some strange reason I can't navigate on Android Google Maps, to Buxton. It won't have it.

Anyone else found that?

I've just flashed my HTC Hero to Villain ROM 10.3 and all I can say is wow. It's very nearly as snappy as the Desire now, a massive improvement over 1.5 and indeed the Villain ROM 5 that I had for a while (which was buggy and laggy at times). If you have a rooted Hero, I highly recommend it.

Battery life is the most obvious improvement with this ROM; my Hero was fully charged at 7am this morning and I've made several calls today along with checking emails, Flickr, Facebook, about 30 text messages, checked BBC news and I've had full synching switched on (used to have that turned off) with background data. The battery use is showing 7 of 10 green bars in the phone status at the time of writing.

I aren't upset with the battery life on my Desire, its easily 3 days before it needs charging.

24 hours later I still had 60% battery out of moderate use. Super.

You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the end of June 2010. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB).

That's off the site its not clear if that's just people without a goody bag or not.

£10 goodybag - you get Internet included for 30 days, otherwise you pay that 50p a day.

Surely it's clear enough? :p

Yeah but if they just wrote that it would avoid confusion :)

Who said it was news? I'm just making the point that everyone is eventually going to get screwed. If the underlying network is pulling the rug out, that should tell everyone something.

I'm not bothered either way about data at the moment anyhow because according to Compare UK Mobile Phone Deals | billmonitor | Ofcom Approved the most I use is under 150MB.

giffgaff are unlimited is my point, the main 4 networks all have limits or a restrictive FUP on their contracts. Giffgaff is unlimited with no FUP on all it's goodybags. There is no risk, as there is no contract tie in. Best product on the market without a doubt now.
