Picked up a new VDSL router / modem.

View attachment 28963

So far, much better than that dogshite Home Hub 5. Wireless is better for a kick off and I expect I won't have to reboot it every 2 to 3 days.

This VDSL router / modem is still going strong, no reboots required. Reckon i'd have to have rebooted the HH5 by now.

My iPhone 6s will be showing up tomorrow. I am so happy to get back to Apple. Not so happy with having spent all that money. Now I just need to sell a OnePlus One which would probably been seen as the more nerdy and awesome :)

Dusted off my Nexus 7 the other day, updated to Marshmallow, makes iOS 9.2 on my 6+ feel like erectile dysfunction.

The nail in Androids coffin was last week when Google decided to update the Google Play Service midway through the day but to fail the update because I did not have enough battery. Then when I tried to open Hangouts to reply to a text it told me to foad and update Google Play Services. Queue a endless loop until I could get to a charger. Such total unnecessary bullshit.

I am really looking forward to shit that just works dicking around with all the stuff Android lets me play with means nothing to me. My Android is set up the same as my iPhone. All my shortcuts in folders one 2 screens. No widgets except OK Google which I can't close without installing another launcher. Android does not float my boat and iOS is just so much smoother I will be a happy bunny.

The only reason the iphone doesn't have that problem is because it can't update any pre-installed components unless as part of an OS update, including apps like apple maps and so on. If it needs to do an update and the battery is low though, it will suffer problems just the same if it's interrupted. Fair enough if there's other reasons too, but if that's all that's done it, it's not that great a reason... Would be far better to get a battery pack to charge it when there's no socket...
Like I said though, fair enough if there's other reasons, I know some people prefer iphones, but that particular issue is pretty minor.

My ipad won't update unless it has 50% charge - I suspect this is because of idiot prevention...

That was the final straw. I am one of the people that prefer iOS I like a device that just works. It is the same reason I don't use Linux even though I could figure it out, my phone is a tool I want it to work as smoothly and easily as possible. With the updates I am normally fine with the way Google updates. Over night when it is charging. But I have no idea why this one decided to happen midday and to start the update only to fail with low battery. It was the final WTF moment with me and this phone.

I tried to reply to a text and Android said I couldn't because I needed to update an application. The Play store said the update had failed. I am not sure how I managed to fuck that up but OK.

Must admit the excessive amount of Heineken I had consumed to erase the memories of the Chelsea game meant I missed the auto-update part of what you said. It does seem a bit strange that the phone would let that happen when it doesn't have enough charge to complete - shame they didn't build in the same safeguards around battery levels to update apps as they have for the system software itself.

Santa came early, my Fujinon 16-55 f/2.8 has arrived.

Stunning lens. Made of metal, beautifully damped controls, the aperture ring rotates and clicks like opening a big old bank safe. Fully weather resistant and the optics - oh my - superb piece of glass.

Believe it or not it actually took the Z5 Premium back yesterday, along with the Z5 Compact the OH got.

Phones were great but O2 were incompetent - data speeds were around the WAP level and the missus couldn't get reception at work. In Birmingham, right next to the BT Tower where all the transmitters are. She's been with them for 6 years now and says they've been getting worse and worse - to the point it's pretty much unusable around Birmingham.

So we dropped the phones off at the O2 store yesterday, had a massive argument when the store manager struggled to add 14 to 5, then went and signed up with EE, vowing never to go near O2 ever again.

Oh yeah and we got 2 new Z5's. They really are lovely phones. My Premium is better than her Compact though, obviously!

I really want to bait you and say that the antenna on the Z5 must be shit if you were with O2 before but did not notice the issue... so I did.

But O2 are utter horse shit not because of download speed but because the customer service is appalling.

She'd been having issues for a while, so went into the O2 store to sort it out. Their first suggestion was a new SIM card which worked straight away, so she upgraded and got an extra line for me, which worked for about a week then the issues started in force. She had zero signal at her desk, as soon as she got to New Street on the way home, full signal again. She then called Customer Services who said it was an ongoing issue in Birmingham and there wasn't going to be a quick fix, so she was better off returning the phones and going with someone else.

And strangely, we've done that with identical phones and the signal is MUCH better.

I can see that back when I had Orange a mast in Clacton got knocked down and due to changes in planning permissions Orange could not put a new one up and were told it would be a year before I got signal at home again. And I had zero signal. They only gave me 30% off terminating my Contract too.

Mug tbh.

If they can't provide what you're paying for then they've broken the contract - not you. So write to Ofcom today and get your money back.

I spoke to my mates Mum who worked for CAB and she asked around. As long as they are taking reasonable steps to fix the issue they have not broken the contract. And some mug in a lorry broke it which meant it was not Oranges fault. If the council had let them replace it rather than going through planning again it would have been fixed in days. Years ago back when I paid for proper contracts. It was one of the things that made me switch to 30 day SIM only.

Absolutely not - if they can't provide you a service that you're paying for for a year then that's utter bollocks.

OFCOM m8. Trust me.
