I've just bought a Nvidia Shield tablet for a tenner off another forum.

Killswitch been activated due to the battery recall but its gotta be worth a mess for a tenner (posted).

Depends if you think it's worth having something in your house that may set on fire.

I'm quite enjoying this. I'm filming the entire length of my local canal, just for personal interest really but also to let people know it's there. This is obviously a work in progress, I'm learning as I go.

The camera doesn't record audio so I'm having to cart my soundkit around with me. I'm recording background audio in M+S stereo and also doing the odd spot fx.

Be glad it doesn't record audio. The first thing I do when I'm editing GoPro footage is delete the audio track; it's worthless.

It's fantatsic. Its really very quick. Takes a while to charge around 5 hours but it lasts quite a while.
The keyboard charges quickly though. The keyboard is quite good. Very much like a regular laptop keyboard. i don't use it much as it's easier to use the screen.
Works great for emails and anything else you need to type for a longish time though.

The screen is great. Really very crisp and clear. And very good viewing angles. Very pleased with it.

I used one of the pre installed apps to connect to my Sony TV which worked instantly.

Not used the tablet much at all this week but it has been on standby the whole time since Sunday. Battery is now only at 23%! Says it will last another 2 days!
Quite impressed. I will see how it does with moderate use.

Also @Tom, I'm not sure of the regs in England but you would probably get a spanking for flying over or even near roads. The French regs basically say "don't fly within 50m of something or someone that isn't under your control".

Yeah I'd already checked on that, the CAA website doesn't mention roads, just to be 50m away from stuff. So I'll probably change those opening shots for something similar.

I don't have to be the biggest...just as long as I'm bigger than @Trem
How much did that set you back and how's the cable routing on the soul?

You're not 1x on your bike are you? I was thinking of getting the same for mine but I figured the cable routing would look ugly on my 3x10...

258 euros. Thats about 8000 pounds.

Cable route is non stealth, so I will loop and go under the top tube. I run 1x10 because I am well 'ard. Also, because I get off on the soul destroying pain of climbing the bike.

You might only have a thumb tack but when you are hitting it with 18 stone of hammer it does the job :)

I'm interested to see how you get on with Nest, i've got two thermostats anyway so I don't know if i'd get use out of it.

It'll be a while before I know for sure but it's certainly better than my old programmable thermostat. It will live in the hallway but that space is in the middle of being renovated. It certainly feels like a premium bit of kit, heavy, smooth cold aluminium, soft-touch clicky rotating dial thing. Kind of like really nice buttons in a premium quality car.

I'm going to get one of those soon. They look superb and you don't have to have them stuck on the wall either as it can be put on a stand if you choose to.

Actually, after seeing how much they are the mind boggles how you're going to save enough energy to make up for how much it costs!

I can't remember if it was Nest or Hive but they have been in the Amazon daily deals a fair bit recently for half price including install.

Mine will be mounted on the underlying brick of my hallway wall and surrounded by plaster, so when it's done you'll see a few mm of brick around it, and a nice smooth ring of plaster with a curved edge. That way, it'll be recessed in the wall and only 1/2 an inch or so will stick out.

@Scouse I don't have regular hours so there are many days where the heating is on for no reason, this allows me to turn it off when I'm away. I can also set it to come on when I'm driving home so the house will be warm by the time I get there.

And anyway, they feel really, really nice to hold and play with. They've been very well designed.

It's heavy too, like proper "damn this must be expensive" heavy. I know that once it's on the wall that won't make a difference, but there's absolutely no creaky plastic feel or anything. When you turn the dial it's like you're turning a huge machine bearing.
