Unusual that the mirrorless was louder, they don't have a mirror flapping about so it's just the shutter and are generally fairly quiet (unless it's a Sony A7). I'd stay with a DSLR as well for wildlife, especially in low light.

Sorry, I meant that the quietness of a mirrorless is what would appeal to me most about them.

i'll change the cpu out for a xeon

I recently upgraded my home server with one of the E3-1225 v3 Xeons and even though it's very lightweight as far as Xeon's go, it's handled all my iSCSI and VM needs with ease.

...I saw a demonstration of Showdown running on the Oculus Rift Crescent Bay, being powered by an unannounced Radeon R9 flagship ultra-enthusiast product. Those words, in their exactness, were told to me officially, as in on the record, by AMD.

I think Oculus is in danger of being outrun by it's competitors...

Was thinking exactly that today.

I just wonder if the publicity, openly public beta and kickstarter focus forced other companies with substantially more dollah to get their skates on.

This day last year my brother died of lung cancer. He was a lot older than me and I barely knew him before the last few months of his life, and he was a difficult character (in all likelihood he had asbergers that was never properly diagnosed) and had fallen out with pretty much everyone in his life but he was apparently a pretty good guitar player.

I'd lost both my parents in the 5 months leading up to this and had already decided to learn guitar as something new to do to try and get through it all but the weird thing was that the cheap guitar starter kit that I had ordered arrived the day he died. I have been learning ever since, and although I have no religious beliefs at all I do somehow feel that I am learning partly for him.

I am still very much a beginner but I am loving it, and people are recognising what I play and so I decided to treat myself and spent a bit of my inheritance on this:

A rather tasty Gibson SG. So much easier to play than the cheap Led Paul copy that I have been using.

I started learning using Rocksmith on the PC which was great fun but I was concerned that I could be learning and reinforcing bass habits and would never know so I found a teacher who I really like and look forward to lessons and enjoy practise! Learning to play is without doing the best decision I've made in a long time.

I don't know what to say. I hope you're ok RB and I'm glad the guitar playing is cathartic in some way.

P.s. That guitar is fucking epic. I hope it brings years of joy :)

Facebook aren't exactly short of a bob or two... Problem is they're probably fucking around with the spec to come up with some kind of glorified chatroom/webex/immersive conferencing software to launch with (a la Snowcrash) and everyone else has caught up, but it might not be the worst idea for them because one of the biggest problems with all these VR sets is the lack of content; building a solid platform to give Oculus an ongoing purpose while the content catches up could make all the difference.

Of course Facebook have plenty of cash, but their acquisition was fairly recent - I guess competition isn't a bad thing, I don't know how it all works, but I do hope they're aren't multiple standards / platforms / incompatibility faffs for years to come.

Nice guitar, considered an SG once upon a time.

The facebook thing will become a jack of all trades I imagine while the Sony and Valve kits will predominantly aimed at gaming.

The Avegant Glyph is also starting to look like a more serious contender after some rather flakey prototypes. It's kind of inbetween VR and straight video goggles and, instead of having screens, it actually projects stuff straight into your eyes (which sounds quite terrifying). Its primary usage scenario seems to be media consumption but it can do some VR stuff too.

how noisy are those things? I'm considering one for my mum as a desktop replacement because they're small and cheap :)

small and cheap :)

Like Jup?

Bugger off Meg, I tried Plex again the other day and its shit, why does it insist on making all the extra fucking folders, genre, kids etc it's so annoying. It tries to micro manage stuff that doesn't need it. It streams stuff way shitter than Kodi as well, jerky and takes longer to load.

Not overly, when it boots up it sticks the fans to 100% then spools it down. But mine usually sits on 5-9% so its pretty quiet. Much quieter than my desktop ;)

Purchased one to play with from Bestbuy at the weekend. Nice piece of tech. Have been playing around with the Watchmaker App and Facerepo for watch designs to put on it. Sending texts from Voice commands and testing the music control as well. Fun stuff :)
