Just taken delivery of a Dell U2515H, though I didn't get it from Dell, far cheaper from other stores. Really nice step up from my old 21" LG...

Very nice (and I love the connectivity). I might spring for one and relegate my current display to second place.

Just installed a new Android media player as a replacement for my old WD LiveTV:

http://www.geniatech.com/pa/atv1800.asp?vd=rj

Fully loaded version as sold by MyGica through AliExpress. Replaced XBMC with the latest Kodi version and have been connecting all my media to it. Not tried the 4k vid yet, no point as the screen it is attached to is a 55" 1080p Panasonic LCD :)

Serious question, how do the nerds in this thread justify all the awesome shit to their other halves?

In the case of the Android Media Player I just purchased I told her that WD no longer supported it and that the remote was playing up. Which was almost true, the battery cover broke and had to be sellotaped on :)

I update my main PC's every two years during the summer and justify it as continued maintenance to keep it up to date and working well. The parts are used to update an older rig normally used for media etc. So I actually have parts for up to 4 years. Still have boxes full of crap which I keep promising to junk. I update my gaming laptop also every 2 years also and give the old one to my son. $2k-$2.5k is steep but I usually get that from my annual bonus

I play games to unwind from a pretty stressful job at times. She understands but if I play too much she lets me know :) Plenty of disposable income helps, I doubt I would get away with half of it if I was back in blightly earning less than 100K and paying tax.

I recycle mine fairly frequently... so by the time they start moaning it's usually time for a new model.

I caved in after a million years and got myself a 5.1 headset to see if I can do the positional audio thing. It's a fairly cheap and cheerful Roccat Kave, which has 4 separate speakers built in to the headphone cans. The headset boasts it can actually handle a 5.1 source, rather than simulating it from a 2 channel source. After some faffing about getting the connectors right, it worked, but it's very much an either/or with my main speakers, which irks me slightly (as I like my main speakers).

The packaging is pretty flimsy, which put me off a bit when unboxing, but the unit itself is pretty decent. It has a controller thing between itself and the computer which allows you to set master volume levels, and sliders for center/front/rear/sub, as well as a mic- and master mute. I tested it just now in some atmospheric Metro 2033, and it's pretty fair, although I did notice some things:

- general 5.1 source difference seems very computery, by which I mean that channels outputting the audio source vis a vis the position of your avatar are very sharply defined. By slightly shifting your avatar you can make the output switch between, say, center and left (or right) rather than a smooth transition. Ofc, this is more likely to be my mobo's on-board realtek, unblushingly labeling itself Dolby capable, than the headphones but still, I did notice it.
- my brain is having a bit of a chore differentiating between "behind me" and "beside me". This could be that I don't yet have the levels dialed in, or that I have to simply learn to recognize something I never heard before.
- the 'cans have a sub channel which puts out low frequencies about as impressively as a 40mm speaker can be, eg not very. Could also be a levels thing again.

@TdC did you ever get around to getting an Olympus mirroless setup (or was it a Fuji...)?

well, what I did at purchase was swap the meh kit lens for the 25mm F1.4 pana. after that I got the olly 12mm F2 and the olly 45mm F1.8 (which I recently sold to a mate's son). A year in I got the 7-14mm F4 pana. Friggin' awesome lens.

That Dell U3415W is getting good reviews. Not great reviews but good reviews. Apparently there's a new revision of it on the horizon (start of March) that fixes various issues that some reviewers have picked up (backlight bleed etc). It looks to be much better than LG's offerings though.

Another nice not very advertised feature is a built in KVM switch so you can plug your keyboard/mouse into the USB 3.0 ports on the back and switch between multiple pooters from the monitor.

Yep it is, I've been gently masturbating over reviews and things for a few days and I only learned about it today. They really should be shouting louder about it, it's a great idea. Especially when you can do PiP and side by side and all that jazz. They only give it a little bullet point on the monitor's page...
Easily display content from two different PCs at the same time with the Picture-by-picture or Picture-in-picture features. Plus enjoy the convenience of using just one keyboard and mouse to navigate content from both PCs, via the USB 3.0 upstream ports.

I have been nursing an erection looking at the gear on this site:

I already have a Canada Goose Expedition Parka which people often laugh at when I tell them what it cost. They stop laughing when they're freezing their tits off while watching me be lovely and warm. I really fancy some of these gloves:

Arcteryx kit is great, I'm away skiing in a couple of weeks and was looking at a new Arcteryx shell - Snow & Rock had some reductions in certain colours, worth a look.
