Has anybody looked at electric cars?
I'm swooned over Tesla's for ages, but cant afford one until the Model 3 comes out. But I'll need a car in the next year and a half and keep looking at the Leaf and Golf-e. Both have ranges that are *just* shy of what I need (100 mile round trip communte) or else I'd have to charge at work somehow.
If I lived closer to work then it as far as I can see would be a no brainer. I love how Nissan will loan you a car free if you need to go long distance, ie visit rellies etc. The Tesla would be perfect as plenty of range, and then the supercharges for long trips, but I guess the fast charge points are pretty much everywhere now.
So damn tempting!

I run a Lexus RX400h so not really an EV, more a petrol-engined car with an electric buffer. It's pretty good when on electric although it'll only drive the car for about 0.5-1 miles before running out of juice (the batteries are very low capacity). The electrics are really there for low speed manoeuvres around car parks, or stop-start traffic in town centres. The battery charges from braking, inertia, or the engine itself.

It's really a very lovely feeling being in a car that makes no noise when running on electric. I can cruise up to my front door and park, without making a sound (I'm sure the neighbours appreciate this as sometimes I return from work very late). It's also quite bizarre in that I can get better mpg when pootling around an urban environment than when I'm doing 60mph on the motorway. Usually I average about 30mpg, which for a petrol 3 litre 2 tonne 4x4 that does 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds is actually not bad.

Personally I can't wait for EVs to drop in price. I am absolutely sick and tired of the stench of diesel. It's fucking disgusting.

I got fed up of the smell of diesel too - nasty acrid stuff, so I decided to go back to petrol and bugger the extra cost. As it is, with the fuel price dropping, my 3 litre petrol now costs less to run than my old 3 litre diesel. It is so much nicer to drive as well, no horrible drone on the motorway, just silence until you put your foot down, then it sounds glorious. However, for me, the main part of any car is it's engine, hence why I find EV's utterly tedious. Probably great if you just want to get from A to B, but if you want to enjoy the process, then they suck balls.

IMO, YMMV, etc etc

Mine is 260 quid, which is about a month's worth of petrol. When you add in maintenance, insurance, depreciation etc, it really is a tiny amount of running a car. For reference, the old diesel was £210 a year.

The new intel TV sticks and their generic unbranded chinese variants look nice.
£70 quid for a windows 8.1 stick, install steam, install SCP for ps3/ps4 controller support, chuck in TV.
Steam inhome streaming ftw.

I got the MS stick for my Surface Pro 3 for $40 (Best Buy deal) normal price is $60 so the intel's sound a tad expensive. Great device, used it in 3 hotels now for watching movies.

Your lucky it didn't take more with it. I had ram and all sorts affected before..
Might be the case, I had one instance of not starting up. Took all but Ram modules out (put one spare back in) and it started then added them back in one at a time. All 4 back in and it has not repeated but still a little worrying. Going to leave it on overnight running some stress tests.

So... My Z1 had a lovely death today. Crack down the screen basically meaning I have to rotate it to use some most pieces of functionality. Luckily, the keyboard sensors haven't fucked.

In fairness I've also just discovered that my yearly car tax would just about cover the cost of a tyre for it :|

Bloody Bridgestone and their wanky runflats that can't last the time they are on the car without perishing. Grrr.

I've heard all about that man from my lasses parents, just shy of £800 for four new tyres on an X1. Cheapest place for them was Asda believe it or not, hah.

Kinda makes me happy I can get some guff refurb for around £20 on my scrapper.

The missus is getting a new (to her) Clio next weekend - and she is taking great pleasure in telling me that she can get all 4 tyres on hers done for less than the cost of one of mine.

Anything after a Y reg will seem new to me like! I've got no doubt my lass was doing exactly the same to her parents, her little skinny Aygo wheels will cost absolute peanuts.

The thought of the price of your tyres just makes me frightened.

Not sure the make of the run flats on mine 318 but had them two years and no issues still got 5mm all round. Glad I didn't have to replace them. Going back to normal tyres and a full size spare wheel. Yay no puncture repair kit. Oh and my new tax will be 30 quid a year :)

Hehe, this Clio is a Y-reg. It's me Nan's old car, as she's having to give up driving, at the grand old age of 94. Mainly as she can't see properly and still drives as if she's 24....Great little car though, 1999 Clio Grande with 19,000 miles on the clock - and I think 5th gear has been used twice......

Looking into it cracking seems quite common for Bridgestones if they aren't used for a while, I think these must have started going when it was sitting on the dealer forecourt. Bloody annoying, never had it on any of my previous cars, but they all had proper tyres on them (Michelin).

Real car tax bands start at over £200 :)

Hehe. Yes but it's still 140bhp so I'm happy with that.

I did promise that when I got the beast I would post up some pictures, so here you go. Only 6 months after you asked for them - I spoil you I really do.

Anyway here she is in all her silverness.

I think the 1 Series works better as a Coupe (although, let's be honest, it's a 2 door saloon. Which is exactly what I wanted), and whilst it ain't pretty, still very striking. I like it :)

I've somehow managed to put 10,000 miles on it in just under 6 months, however this has included two fairly epic roadtrips, one to Bruges and Amsterdam, the other up to Edinburgh and St Andrews. There was enough room in the boot for all our stuff both times (including a set of golf bats on the Scotland trip), has proved immensely comfortable, properly rapid, and not too bad at all on fuel considering. This was after 1300 miles across Europe.

It's bloody brilliant despite the cost of putting new tyres on, and I never, ever ever want to sell it. From the minute it roars into life it never fails to put a smile on my face, and that for me is the most important part of a car, and well worth the extra fuel costs over a smelly soot chucker.

That wasn't too great on this generation of 1 Series, so no great loss. And as I like to live life on the edge I have no warranty, and if the iDrive breaks it's big money to fix.

Previous owner seems to have upgraded the stereo however, which is nice :)

Prescription cycling glasses, Bolle Vortex. Pretty chuffed as I have a strong prescription and Bolle are about the only manufacturer who can accommodate me. £300.

That made cycling look awesome. And that's without a head collision with a cow.
Didn't show the effort required to get to the top of the hill to go down it that fast hehe. And to my mind just cause you don't have a speedo or can get prosecuted you should be around the speed limit. And the amount of time you spent in the middle of the road was stupid. Also having to lockup your wheels to get round the van or stop at the cross junction just showed how irresponsible cycle riders are.
