I'm trying to buy a new stick of 256MB Ram for my machine. Here's the specs:

256MB DDR-SDRAM 184 pin DIMM (serial no: pc2100u-2533-750)

I can't for the life of me find out if it's ECC or non-ECC, so not sure what RAM to buy :(

Can anyone help point me in the right direction before I tear my hair out? I've got all the information (shown below). Would looking at the actual memory stick that's already in my machine give any more clues?

i, think, but i'm not 100% on this, that some 533 DDR RAM would do you nicely

EDIT: just reread your origional post, take the old one out find out the modle number and manufacturer name, then buy an identical one... sorted.

*ahem*

righto, the specs on the Advent 3109 appear to be as follows:

CPU Intel Pentium 4 1.9GHz

Sound Card Avance AC'97
Speakers Powered stereo speakers
Modem Conexant 56K PCI WinModem

And for the motherboard:

CPU Support: Socket 478 for Intel® P4 processors. FSB @400MHz (100MHz QDR). Supports Intel® P4 processors (Socket 478) from 1.3GHz to 2.0GHz and up.
System Memory: Three 184-pin DDR DIMM socket. Supports up to 3GB DDR333/DDR266/DDR200 SDRAM. Supports 2.5v DDR SDRAM
Core Logic (Chipset):
SiS® 645 Chipset. (North-Bridge 702 BGA)
Support 64-bit P4 processors at 400MHz.
Support 32-bit AGP 4x/2x slot.
Support 64-bit high performance DDR 333 / DDR 266 memory controller.
Support bi-directional 16 bit data bus with 533MHz bandwidth MuTIOL.
SiS® 961 Chipset. (South-Bridge 371 BGA)
Support Dual-IDE ATA 66/100.
6 ports USB controller.

Audio Chipset:
AC'97 link controller integrated in SiS® 961.
2 channels S/W audio codec ALI 201A
Compliance w/ AC'97 v2.2 Spec.
Meet PC2001 audio performance requirement.
Bios Specifications:
The mainboard BIOS provides AMI "Plug & Play" Flash BIOS which detects the peripheral devices and expansion cards of the board automatically.
The mainboard provides a Desktop Management Interface(DMI) function which records your mainboard specifications.
Internal Connectors:
1 Floppy port supports 2 FDD with 360K, 720K, 1.2M, 1.44M and 2.88Mbytes.
2 Serial ports (COM A + COM B)
4 USB ports (rear 2x / front x2)
1 Parallel port supports SPP/EPP/ECP mode.
1 IrDA connector for SIR.
1 audio/game port.
1 D-Bracket pin header.

Which means a stick of non-ECC PC2100 will do the job a-ok. Head over to www.crucial.com/uk or clicky here for RAM matched to your PC. 256Mb is going to set you back about £34 at the moment, or you can snag 512Mb for £61. Your board is straight single-channel DDR, so don't worry about having to match memory sizes or anything, it won't make the blindest bit of difference :)

sorted it. got the info off the memory and after searching came up with some close links.

Not sure if it's ecc or not still but Crucial had info on upgrading my model number so tried that.

Had a brown pant moment when machine did not work after resetting the ram, but quick push solved it :}
