Install Problems-Could it be SP2

Ok apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum.

I recently had to get a new hard drive. I thought I would get a new O/S so I got XP pro and it shipped with SP2. That installed no problems.

I then try and install Planetside from a direct download. The programme unpackages to 100% and I expect it to install but no joy. So I thougt it may have been corrupt files on Gamespy. I bought the CD version. Now this goes install and as soon as I launch the setupe.exe I get an error message saying cannot install, catastrophic error. All software is 100 legal and orginal


Now before I got my new hard drive I was happy playing planetside. My set up has not changed. I have tried installing it with Norton Internet Security and Windows firewall off. Still no joy

I managed to get through to the Sony Online Live chat system. They advised that I copy the contents of each CD to a new folder and try and install from there. Still no good

My System is as follows

XP Pro Service Pack 2
Pentium4 3.2 ghz
2gb DDR RAM
2x 80Gb maxtor HDD
Asus P4P800SE Mobo
Radeon 9800XT graphics
