All who seem to think everything is a gripe, whine or complaint find another thread please.

Ok with tat out of the way, I have a question to all those who have more than 3 month of playing beheind them.
Has this game lost it's charm and become nothing more than Diablo 2?
Everywhere you go now you get met by PL'ers, farmers, rude people etc. the list goes on, but I haven't had my morning coffee yet so can't think of them all.
What I mean by this is, that when I started playing this game a while ago, 1½-2 years I think, can't rememeber exactly, it was all about working together and helping out despite of guild, nationality, gender, age, amount of plats (few had any) and so on and so forth.
I remember that everyone, and I do mean everyone ran to Castle Excalibur whenever the Call to Arms sounded in the realms (and mind you, back then Unity hadn't even been thought of, it was all cross guilds) lvl 5's as well as the few lvl 50's there were. I'm not specifically refering to the recent relic raid that lost Albion it's relics, I was on vacation and am therefor in no place to speak of what happened.
In my experience, when Call to Arms is called nowadays, people still rush to Sauvage to move out and bless them, but an increasing number of players seem to believe that it's ok for them to stay and farm in Emain or Sidi or whatever place that brings in fortunes, discussable glory. Another observation when the Call to Arms sounds is, that most people who meet there are people that also played the game when I was but a wee scout running around in Cammy hills and trying to scrape enough gold together to get my flecthing a couple of points up. The new players that have joined the game in the past months seems to not know that this is a cooperative game (cooperation = team work... Unfamiliar with the phrase? Look it up, will help you loads in real life)
I could go on and on with this for hours, but as you probably want to go help your realm friends level their characters ;) I'll stop it now.
But tell me, in all honesty, am I the only that feels like I'm logging on to Battlenet and D2 when I hit my shortcut for DAoC?

If you have taken offence to this post, bless you, it was directed to you.

Have to agree, in the old days urm 12-18 months ago the game was VERY different, and alot more fun, I seriously think they screwed things up lifiting the exp limits.

Remember the days when a grey grouped with you the group got NO exp. Bring that back - stop the PL'ers :)

hhmmm

hhmm well, I have not been playing Daoc as long time as u.. (I started in january 2003)
Anyway, about the rude ppl-part, I can not relate to that. We have a great guild and a great alliance with some very nice and friendly ppl....
But but but... I know what u r saying, when it comes to teamwork..
Often when our keeps are attacked by enemies, we are only a few trying to save them...
All the other lvl 50 Mids still seems to be running around in emain, farming in DF or what ever they do...

Luckely their is still some teamplayers left... but not enough.

Im happy, that I know a lot of nice ppl in the game.... so tnx to them all

I feel the same really... playing up to 18 months now and things were very much different back then. You didn't hear much about pl'ing in the early months, everybody formed groups, tried to make the best of it and most of all, had more fun. Some occasional whiner, ofcourse, but not like it is now... imo

BIG diference:

D2: dupes, ith, hacks, HC PKers, Hydrasorcs, MapHack, Mephi / Pin runs (now thats boring)

DAoC: hardly any cheats (apart from radar) much more aspects

after 3 level 50s the normal way i started to rush chars to 50 because the PvE leveling is like": been there, done that

This game has some serious issues in buffbots (RvR only) and PL which makes it hard to get good ppl in group based exping. a lot of skillfull players cba to explain the basic game concepts to ppl who refuse to listen and PL there char to 45 - 50

The moment DAoC becomes D2 ill quit

Yes basically it has.

Beggars, cheaters, exploiters, powerlevellers, griefers, unbalanced class issues, selfishness.

It's jsut not a pleasant place to be in at the moment, just unfortunate for us there isn't any real alternative out at the moment. Tho I'm pretty sure both Mythic and GOA knows DAoCs days are numbered. GOA already licensing another game and Mythic probably working on something else other than DAoC updates.

For those that started playing just after release, will know just how hard it was to level a character to 50 taking months to get there in some case's. Those that only started 6-8 months got it easy.

Took me ~4 months to get my first level 50, was almost 10 months after release before i level`d my second because it just took too damn long. Then the xp caps were removed/lowered and things were a hell of a lot easier, level`n 3 chars to 50 in around 3-4 months.

Exping was A LOT harder last year around feb-may or so,now you just get some rude/lazy person who can just go power lv his/her friend by pulling mobs from new players who are trying to exp in the spot without giving a rat's ass about it.Whereas near the start of the game people were all same lvs, there was no buffbots,no ra's,no sc,like emma said exp wasn't as good and you didn't have as much exp spots/zones.

The amount of times people have asked me for power lv is shitloads, although some people i do not mind but some have been very abusive.

Have had abusive insults received from various players who you would least expect from over minor issues,it seems last year the players were ones who played for fun and it seems now some players just play to make others playing experience hell.

Some people just tend to forget youngsters play this aswell as adults like myself(although i do not act like one sometimes i admit
:) )

This is about the 50:th time I see this same thread. 10 times for each MMORPG I've played with any activity. People get bored of the game they've played for hundreds of hours and instead of blaming it on those hours, they tend to blame it on the game. This is meant as no offence to anyone, I often tend to do the same myself, but I guess it's human nature. :)

Comparing daoc to D2 is however silly imo. Just started playing D2 after like 2 years, and could barely handle all the spammers, rude people, cheaters etc etc. Yes, there are problems with daoc, but in addition to them being much smaller in daoc, D2 is just SUCH a simple game in comparison. I dunno about you guys but going through those 5 acts over and over again with the classes that are basically almost the same gameplay-wise gives me nothing more than mild fun for a couple of hours at a time at best, while daoc has eaten incredible amounts of hours and I still often have fun playing. I truly don't believe any of you would be paying that 12e/month if you didn't get _anything_ out of the game, but perhaps I am wrong. :) Would you pay 12e/month for D2?

Yes, the community has developed into a direction that I don't claim to be all positive, but as people get more skilled and tired of certain aspects of the game (exping!), changes in common behaviour were and are bound to happen.

A reply to Ramshir

I agree, D2 may not have been the best example when comparing game technicalities, but I think I negelcted to tell in my initial post that it was as much the attitude as the game mechanics that have changed since I started, thanks for pointing out the fact and D2 is a VERY simple game compared to DAoC and I agree, who the hell in this wonderful world would pay 2 cents for playing D2.
I apoligize if this post has been posted 20 times before, I don't visit Barrysworld much, but I wanted to find out if I was insane or that actually were dramatic changes over the past months.
A big thank you to all who replied in such constructive ways, I really appreciate it.

Example of rudeness not seen one year ago:
A guy comes up to me around lvl 6 and asks:
"Plz gimme some money for armor and weaps".
Im considering giving him 5 gold, though I see he is in guild.
I say: "Why dont u ask ur guild first?"
And then he says:" Thx for nothing biatch, lamer".
I mean wtf?? This is not the first example.

yeah, i started on day one (february 2002). It took me untill august 2002 to get to 50 with my infil
lvl 40 - 50 was hell, going to lyon, looking for tangler grps or tree grps. Most grps even had a waiting list. You had to reserve your spot in the afternoon, to get it in the evening.... those were the days :)

Aye this become more and more common, i've been reported to rightnow for griefing cause i gave them nothing, how do i know this, cause the 3 people that reported me sent me a mail of their report. But Goa have done nothing.

But on the other hand, one of the most best memories from the last month is the lil dwarf rouge i helped with some armor, still makes me giggle when he ran around saying how rich he was with his 99 copper coins. And the disapointmet when he saw the prices on armor and weapons, that made me make some armors for him and he was really greatfull and gave me all his cash, even when i tried to turn the cash down. :)

And thoose lamers that feel the need to use different cheats please go and die. Reported a few of them, and its almost always the same people i've see do some very wierd stuff. Wish there is a game comming that makes cheating impossible.
