I did a Warrior just today, because necromancer bored me too much. So will probably need help with a item transfer at some point :)

Thats' the spec I was talking about.

Got 20 Arms first, then 20 Defense, then Strength. Then 70-80 you can put the last points into arms/defense.

Using Signets in all your slots, gives you something like 90% crit rate, so might using Greatsword stacks instantly to 8-10 when you use 100blades. The regen signet is also really OP at low levels as it doesn't scale properly, so you can pretty much solo anything in game :p

Can use Longbow instead of Rifle too, use the F1 ability, then #3 ontop of it and you get a combo field that gives you 3x stacks of might.

Very casual, you can log on for 10mins complete a quest and log out.

Appreciate the answer, meant it more like;

'do you have to run 5 hour raids in order to be able to compete'

I know the game system seems to be based more around skill than gear, and I'm not expecting to spend no time in game and get max rewards, but I'd like to know its not a WoW system, or even a DAoC system of ML runs etc.

The dungeons seem a bit random as to difficulty and time spent. I've done the 30, 40 and 50 dungeon and I wouldn't bother doing two of them again. I don't know that you need to do them to compete, I do ok in pvp and pve with random shit gear that drops at all levels.

The 40 one is pretty easy with nice exp, takes 30 mins to finish.
The 30 & 50 one take hours and have similar rewards. Mobs randomly one shotting you with little to no indication of what/when it's coming.
I googled a video for the 60 dungeon and the length was 4h 15m so probably not going to bother there. http://www.twitch.tv/snow_fl4ke/b/331060603 Oh, nm it seems he doesn't get started for a while.

The dungeons are quite lengthly like, the level 80 story dungeon took us over an hour to do as it had a few different NPC driven events

It's not like I'll never have the chance to do a longer dungeon, I just don't want it to be a requirement to be able to compete/have fun.

How is higher end equip obtained? Is it a drop system or tokens/points like WoW?

Also, is there a way to mod UI? I spent most of my time in WAR doing that xD

The drops are pretty wank from dungeons tbh, or were in the level 80 story one atleast :p highest thing that dropped you could probably craft better.

I don't really know a lot about it but there's legendary items which you need I think skill points for, you get them by levelling and also by doing challenges on all the maps, they give you abilities so you need to spend them but if you limit yourself(it's not fun to do that mind) to what you know you want to use you can get some legendaries faster.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/6574/The-Legendary-Endgame.html
Legendary weapons aren’t more powerful than the most powerful weapons in the game, but they look cool enough to earn their moniker, which should let you set yourself apart from the other riff-raff with their boring steel blades and wooden bows. In order to create these legendary weapons, players will have to spend skill points at the Mystic Forge, ensuring that the extra points earned at level cap are actually worth something. Of course, there are said to be other requirements for earning the game’s coveted legendary weapons, but the skill point interaction is all we know of so far.

Gear isn't a factor at all really. It's more like daoc (or UO if you ever played that) where you can get X item from a high end dungeon, but it's not going to give you any better stats than any other level 80 gear. The stats on the cloth crafted gear for example is exactly the same as the explorable (aka heroic in wow) token gear from the end game dungeons, also the same as the items you can buy for Gold or Karma, and again the same as the items you buy with WvW tokens. The only difference is the look/prestiege of it.

French Mesmers are so cowardly ;p all they do is pop images on you and run away, literally the only thing i've seen them do so far.

Which then luckily makes it easy to determine which is the 'real' character and which are images/clones - just go for the one that runs away :D

Do you mean "chase the guy who is furthest away around that suspiciously convenient corner"?

Haha I chased a French Mesmer last night for 10 minutes. He kept spawning the clones and using a stealth ability for a few seconds when running round rocks etc. if you hover over the real one you see a green upwards pointing arrow showing they have been boosted to 80.

I was only level 10 so did not have much to stop him.
