Seriously, the PS3 is great as a blu-ray player but for a standalone player you could be better off with the Panasonic (in my opinion) - it's worth a look anywa.

Depending on you requirements exactly, the PS3 is perhaps a bit too much of a faff for those who purely want BD playback. It's a games console. It doesn't support DTS HD or Dolby TrueHD over bitstream - that may or may not be important to you, but a lot of people are pissed the PS3 doesn't do it.

Those that have bought the DMP-BD30 are raving about it.

as everyone says Ps3 with the blue tooth remote

as for leeched stuff to watch, download .mkvs tv shows are mainly 720p and have pic quality. use mkv2vob to convert em to vobs files to play on the ps3 either off memory cards, dvd-r, ps3 hdd .

dtshd an truehd are supposed to be on thier way via fw update.

but we get cleaned a good deal more often I'll wager!

seriously though, I'm not aware of this DTS-HD or TrueHD malarky. I have an older amp as it is, and it only supports, Digital, DTS and ProLogicII. I plugged an optical cable into the PS/3 and into the back of my amp and it worked straight away.

I understand ofc, that people who actually have a current high-end amp that actually supports HDMI and the Dobly HD stuff, and have the 7.1 speaker setup that seems to be required would benefit from having kit that supports that stuff, but for the likes of me the PS/3 roxors.

Now Mel Gibson is a lying motherfucking convict but you must buy Apocolypto on Blu-Ray, its so amazing with the quality of pic on BR.

Yup yup, was just thinking about a few movies I'dd like to get on blue-ray so I browsed to Amazon, bol.com and proxis.be (cause I live in the Benelux after all) but non seems to sell blue-ray movies. :eek7:
Do I actually have to leave my house to buy movies? How 2003 :(

Dont forget you can 'get' high def stuff, such as BoB. Just look for the x264 stuff on your 'getting stuff' places.

Right... got my ps3 :D
GTA4 was included in the box so it seems like I'm going to play a game on it after all :)

It supports it to decode it and output it as PCM, but no; it's not the same as bitstream.

Beardy nerdiness tbh. I defy 99.99999999% of punters watching telly in a normal living room to notice the benefits of "True HD" audio. For £350, if that's the only advantage of the Panny over a PS3, it ain't worth it. I'd say firmware update ability alone makes the PS3 a better bet, before you add up all the other benefits.

IRC there was a What Hi-FI review of players and although not exactly the best there was nothing that could touch it at that price point, that was before the recent upgrades.

I have tried using TVersity, however can't get it to work. It just sits there doing nothing, even though it says the media server has started my PS3 can't find it. With Nero Showtime and TwonkyVision the servers are picked up straight away. I have concluded that Tversity is a bag of gay.

Tversity by itself does nothing. you also need to enable file sharing in the network controls.

The PS3 isn't the only thing I bought. Got myself a new tv too :D
LE40A656 LCD - television SAMSUNG
Had an old Sony 32" HD Ready tv before and I thought it had pretty good quality picture, but the new tv just blows it away :eek6:

So no, I'm not hooked on GTA4, I'm just busy trying out all the different settings, setting up Tversity etc etc :)

It will be a better TV, it's 1080p and 100 Hz for a start so it's bound to be better than a 32" Sony.
