Alas, couldn't be further from the truth.

My main Mac is a 2013 Mac Pro and still going strong, likewise, before that my 2009 Mac Pro saw me through until I replaced it with the 2013 model.

I still have more PC"s than Macs and spent more on my latest PC than all my macs put together, thats why I said techie.
It all depends what you use it for.

i could run a windows machine for a couple decades if i am not gaming.

a 7 year old mac will do office shit and porn same as a windows machine. Most of the windows machines that go out of date is because of gaming.

2009... I call upon @Wij to shun you with the power of his M1

I have an M1 Air too :) and it really is quite something

I just dont get the Mac vs PC thing, I dont see why in the current climate that there isn't more than one solution to the problem. I hate what Microsoft have turn Win10 into, its the same as Ubuntu, its all driven by the advertising. I'd rather pay for an OS and at least be in control of most of it.

Windows ME drove me away from PC's at home for years that was a travesty in computing, but still used them at work because companies got sucked in to the cheap and cheerful blag.

My philosophy is buy what works for you and what you can afford.

I wouldnt recommend Macs to most people because they wouldn't be able to utilise them to their full potential, they are shiny and people want them.

But thats the thing, you hit the nail on the head, I use Mac's for some specific reasons these days, PC's simply don't compete despite a million people telling me that a PC could do it cheaper blah blah, could I get a cheaper highly spec machine (well, back then I could) but it still wouldnt do the job. Its just PC fanboi speak because they only understand their PC world.

I was using a 12 year old Mac Book the other day and it was very useable, email, surfing, facetime, video editing was a tad slow but it worked. a great £50 spent. It all depends on your requirements.

Many windows machines go out of date because they are designed to be shit and 100% live up to that expectation. Atom and Celeron chips are to blame for it. I have 2, 5 month old laptops sitting under my desk that are just utter shite, more ram and a fast SSD couldnt even save them. It's a travesty.

Yes a lot of the laptops on sale and advertised in flashy carry deals are crap. Cheap parts crap processors and not enough ram.

but i could find a 12 year old pc that was made of quality parts at the time that would be able to do what yr mac does for similar diminutive price.

my 3rd gen i7 desktop is a great linux box but could run win 10 fine.

Cool, a challenge then, this didnt take long. As I said, this is the first thing PC fanboi's say :)

Facetime

I rest my case. Where do I get my winnings?

I just like the way my M1 with no fan thermal throttles less than an Intel chip with a noisy fan blasting away. It makes my cock grow big.

PC's cant run it so its a bit of a no brainer if somebody wants or needs Facetime. Ther eis a lot of other app's that PC's simply cant run making the argument moot.

Its proprietary software. Not that they cant. Just its not made for them.

theres any number of programs that do what facetime does.

and its only useful if the other person you want to talk to also has an apple product. F not you have to use a generic platform independent solution anyway.

apart from apple i bet theres no company that relies on facetime for business communication.

zoom or teams or many other solutions are out that that exclude no one.

You're missing the point though, you said you could make an old PC do what a Mac could. The answer to that is quite simply that it cannot. It matters not that its proprietary sometimes that why people use and continue to use Mac's with MacOS. The Facetime app is the easiest way to end that point.

It doesnt matter whether facetime is consumer focused or otherwise, PC's can't run it. End of story.

I am not against apple. My ipad is great and it beats android tablets hands down.
my pc can do that same functions as face time.

But the fact remains you cant and probably never will be able to run facetime on a PC, this was the crux of the discussion.

It's a pretty daft discussion given how many alternatives there are

It wasn't about the best, its what could and couldn't be done with a Mac and and old PC. Thats it.

You can video call on a PC so it can be done. Just not use that specific app.

I'm starting to sound like Job.

This was the catalyst:

Run Facetime was my response - which should have been the end of it because it can't do it.

Yet this discussion had continued to run and run.

Well I'm sure there are apps that can't run on a Mac so your point is a bit daft.
