27 million quid for something that will last a few hours.

27 million quid could almost completely restore my local canal and serve many thousands of people for decades to come. 27 million quid could help regenerate run-down areas of Salford, create jobs, new businesses and increase peoples' health.

But no, lets spend 27 million quid on some stupid ceremony that everyone will forget in a few years.

You want to spend £27m on a bloody canal? Now that's bonkers.

£27M on a facility that can be used by thousands of local residents, which can improve local businesses, bring in more wildlife, improve peoples' health while teaching them the history of their area?

Maybe we could spend £27M on a big building to worship an invisible fairy in the sky. That's what I call bonkers.

There's only an invisible fairy in the sky if you *believe* that there is. Otherwise, we're all good.

Biggest waste of money since the millennium dome.
"The Olympics are like the millennium dome. They said "you won't know until you go", so I didn't and neither did anyone else."

I think that was on Have I got news for you :D

You say that but my local canal had a reasonable investment project which turned the area into a marina with apartments, hotel, leisure and restaurant facilities. It took a run down industrial area and turned it into an modern attractive location that serves a multitude of fuctions and not only created alot of work for locals during contruction but has left an employment legacy in an area that badly needed it. So, infrastructure improvements, enhancing a location and creating work for locals in an area desperate for work. £27 million starts to sound pretty worthwhile if the plan is engaging and delivers the right results.

He wasnt laughing with you.

Also, London is fine. You dont HAVE to live in places served by the worst tube lines. I live near three tube lines and can get into central london in 20m and always get a seat. Benefits = 99% downsides = 1%.

If necessary I can walk to work in about 45 mins, and coming home I often do just to chillax.

Don't even get me started on my journeys today. Unbelievable, never seen anything like it. If you follow me on twitter you'll have seen some of the rant.

It was a good rant, I have to admit. What actually happened?

They've changed the timers on loads of traffic lights around here and it doesn't make any sense! There are two particularly bad spots on normal roads, one where they've made it so only one side of the road can go at once for no reason at all and another they've made it 2 minutes green in one direction and 13 seconds green in the other, Wtf

Well this morning was pretty poor. Two trains didn't show up, no word of warning, no announcements - they just never appeared. So 45 min wait for a train, only for it to crawl all the way in. So instead of arriving at the office at around 10:30, I arrive at 11:45. Good start there.

On the way home the train was crawling, no announcements again. Then it got to Raynes Park where they kicked everyone off the train if you wanted to get off before Effingham Junction (a fair way down the line). So I was booted off a train and told to change at Raynes Park. Only thing is - there were no trains to change to and they KNEW this. They weren't running any at all. They weren't moving and they weren't attempting to move them. Train stations had empty platforms with trains sat about 50 meters away refusing to move to let people off.

So there were hundreds of people stranded at Raynes Park and Wimbledon. Given that I live about 4 miles from Raynes Park I decided to walk it. It was then I started to realise what an utter shambles these non moving trains were causing. Not only were people stuck on them and stuck at stations, but they lowered ALL the level crossings on the line. I passed 3 on the way home and the traffic was backed up for dozens of cars at a time. So the train network fucked up their own line and caused gridlock on the roads as well, so people trying to get lifts from where they were couldn't get out or in either.

As I was walking back on a main road a bus happened to pop by as I was at the stop. It stopped, let a few people off... and then fucked off without letting me or an elderly woman on. It was reasonably full but obviously had plenty of space and it had just let people off... driver was such a cowardly prick he couldn't even look at us. Took me over two hours to get home. Would have been considerably longer if I wasn't a fast walker.

So do I! :)

However, I don't like pork pie tho.

I hate the jelly stuff, the crusty pastry and the shit-quality pork.

I like this even less tho :(

Poor pies from my local butcher don't have the jelly and the pork is as good as I have tasted, they are fucking epic! :D

Poor pies

Your first two words were correct ;)

Edit:
Well this morning was pretty poor.
Before they introduced the trams in Nottingham near my house the council spent six months slowly making the traffic lights at a particularly bad junction worse and worse - so when the trams finally turned up people were already "normalised" and didn't blame the trams.

They'll ease up as the olympics starts, then hail the transport situation as a "massive success"...

How far is it you live away from work in total btw? And what time did you leave work and get home?
