Well said, it's £27 million out taxpayers pockets to pay for something we didn't get a choice on with another £9 billion attached and zero chance of breaking even nor stimulating the economy enough to justify the spend.

Let's not forget the billions the athletes have had in lottery money as well, it is alot of money going towards sport and an event that the paying public were not consulted about. Not that I am saying it is wrong that we support the athletes but plenty of other countries do not and yet they perform just as well, the UK is following a socialist model of funding and I am not sure it is really producing the results that would justify a massive spend, as Tom said there are a huge amount of worthwhile projects where that money could be used and would positively effect the lives of many thousands.

Not entirely true. Most athletics funding in the UK comes from the lottery, and athletics funding has always been one of the cornerstones of lottery "good causes".

I'm not a fan of the Olympics or athletics in general, and I certainly didn't support the bid for the games in the first place, but frankly your government finds many many creative ways to piss money up the wall in order to get absolutely nothing, every single day of the week, and for a lot more than 10 billion quid at that. At least the good people of Stratford have got a new Tube Station and a Velodrome!

Manchester did a fuckload with £110 million and actually ran at a profit in the end but more importantly was the money attracted to the city in the follow years, something in the region of £600 million in private investment and 20,000 new jobs regionally. Hopefully the residents close to the games feel the same benefit, especially the young and unemployed, god knows they could use a break.
