Maybe they should introduce such sports as the trolly dash, stand around outside of a happy shopper staring at people or the stealing a can of lynx from superdrug, attract more chavs to the Olympics.

A. Yes.
B. Representative of who? Im from a working class family and i sure as hell dont dont earn 100k a week. I certainly dont relate to anything that comes out of most footballers mouths? Why? Because im not a knuckle dragging idiot.

Seriously Aomi - for Dresage you need decent very expensive horses + stabling + horse box for transport as you need to travel constantly for competitions - only a tiny subset of the population can possibly compete in that sport.

Sailing is similar - there are a few schemes but most of the population probably couldnt access these due to location.

Next for the more normal sports its all about access to a decent coach.

The olympics is fun but its not a limits of human ability competition.

Oh cameraman of the olympics, you are a god amongst men.
While it's a very nice arse he has his focus on, it's not shot at the Olympics.
Istanbul 2012 it says quite clearly on her competition number.

Heard and then saw the Eurofighter pass our house a couple of hours ago, recognised it because of the wonderful howl it makes when in front of it.

Jeesus Aoami, you really can be a tard sometimes.

1) Poor kids can't afford to do horse riding seriously - it's fucking expensive - prohibitively so.

2) Lol! Not "representative of who" but what. Representative of the proportions of population who attend public / private schools (93% and 7% respectively).

Don't have a pop if you don't understand what is being talked about... :)

This.

It's exclusive, not inclusive...

is phelps the greatest olympian ever, or are there too many swimming events? 21 medals for him now, and probably one more to come tomorrow before he retires.

He's got the most medals, but I'm not sure that makes him the greatest Olympian? I suppose it's how you determine what that word means. Does he have a personality? Has he done anything political with his gifts? I think a great Olympian to remember would be Jesse Owens

He's one of the great if not the greatest swimmers of all time.
But not a great Olympean or even Athlete, in the sense that he has an idea on how to move (his) sport or anything else forward.

I came to the conclusion last night that to be a good swimmer you need a really weird shaped head.

"The black fist is a meaningless symbol. When you open it, you have nothing but fingers – weak, empty fingers. The only time the black fist has significance is when there's money inside. There's where the power lies."

How about that for a quote.

I have never taken an interest in spectator sport, football, tennis, F1 or any other sport. Even up to 2 weeks ago I could have told you hand on heart that I couldn't give a toss about the Olympics

But after watching the opening ceromony and being totally blown away with it, I must say almost every event has swallowed me up and had me on the edge of my seat. I'm currently watching Jess Ennis in the heptathlon willing her to do well ( although the French girl cant half throw a javelin - 55.87...mental distance)

They have got little remote control Mini's on the side of the pitch that they put the javelins in to take them back to the athletes, brilliant

And watching Victoria Pendleton yesterday and Gemma gibbons in the judo, I feel very patriotic. The stadium looks amazing, the weather seems to be holding out, as ch3t says, so much for doom and gloom, it think we have done an amazing job, and I think it will be looked back upon as a great effort

Jess has just thrown 47.49, her personnel best, she is on track for the gold, just the 800 to run later, but due to her lead, she should have It in the bag

.

Bullshit there is loads of local clubs out there (used to be a member of one myself) where you pay your membership fee and then you can borrow club owned boats to sail with. There is also loads of opportunity to crew for people at events where you may have not been able to get there yourself through lack of transport or cash to pay for travel.

Sailing is very much a sport for everyone imo.

It doesn't just happen at sea, theres loads of little lakes and meres where you can sail.

Agreed, we have quite a few sailing clubs in or very close to hardcore working class areas in Greater Manchester, the potential for access is there. The problem is that alot of locals haven't grown up involved with those sports so they don't realise it is an affordable and achievable sport for them to participate in. Sadly quite a few clubs have a core of more affulent members who don't exactly make the 'lesser' members feel wanted and welcome either, unfortunatly discrimination laws cannot be applied as they are considered private members clubs and so people leave angry rather than take up a civil action. It is sad, great sport but it needs to open up a bit more, the facilities are there and everyone who wants to should be using them.

In other news, russia is getting shat on - are they going to make up for it later? We could actually finish 3rd behind the US and China.

You're not wrong, my missus rolled her eyes at me when I said "eh mate, calm yourself", but clearly I'm not the only person thinking it.
