I and a friend both using Firefox are wondering it there's a way to change the default character encoding for webpages which do not define it.
There are quite a few sites which, where the char encoding is not defined, display a <?> graphic where some symbols (such as £) are supposed to be.
I'm thinking that setting a different default character encoding might be a handy way to fix this, and more effective than writing a gazillion stroppy letters to webmasters
Or I may have got the wrong end of the stick, in which case I look forward to being educated.
