Basically don't do UT, don't play online, don't play single player, play with real friends. Otherwise the game is insufferably shit. It still is a lot of the time.

Finally got around to buying this....started an Ultimate team (Econway88 if you wanna add me for a game any time) and played my first game. I've got a team of 60-65 guys and it matched me against a guy who had nothing but 80-85's....what the fuck?! He trashed me 6-0!

I'd honestly say unless you're willing to spend rather a lot of money on buying packs or coins off Ebay, starting UT at this point is a losing battle.

With that said ultimately what Wazzer says is true, it's most fun when played against friends unless you're the ultra hardcore type. I play a LOT - my record this year is something around 1000 wins, 350 losses on all game modes/accounts combined right now - have played Fifa at LAN, in tournies, for money etc etc and generally consider myself a pretty good player and yet the people whose only goal online is to abuse their way to the cheapest victory possible are still far more difficult to play against than professionals I've played.

Unfortunately, Fifa is something of a victim of its own popularity (and obviously the popularity of the sport) as far as I see it. EA are also money grabbing cunts and have really taken advantage of FUT to make an absolute tonne of money.

If you're really serious about getting into FUT I'd be more than happy to put together a cheap but effective pair of gold teams - the idea is you rotate the two, having the players from each team on the other's bench - for you in your chosen formation and trade the players to you. I'd offer straight up coins but I think building effective teams for you would be a much better start than giving you coins you would (with all due respect :p) likely waste. :D

This is what I hate about FIFA. You play football and you will lose. You play FIFA and you will win. It's fucking shit.

Yeah, that is certainly true. It is a game after all and when it comes down to any kind of competition online it brings the worst out in people. At the highest level though the base level of these types of players is exploitable if you're really good, but as I say the frustration is certainly still there because they're often harder to beat than technically better players.

With that said, every game I've ever played online has been like this. The difference with a game like Fifa is that you play it in relatively short bursts and against different people every game. As a working example, at a LAN final for T:A that I played in we did something fairly 'lame' at the end of the last map to ensure victory - afterwards the captain of the other team shook my hand and said it was lame, but he understood and would have done the same. Having that familiarity makes rivalry much more healthy. Fifa doesn't have that, and quite frankly the average age of most players you'll meet online is probably far lower than the average age that reads a forum like this which is a huge factor.

Haha shit this is what I was afraid people would say......so you can only compete properly if you buy it when it comes out? Seems somewhat unfair.

Unfortunately being stateside I have about 2 friends here who actually play Fifa and aren't total shit and both of those, like myself are either engaged or married, so finding time is a bitch. So if you're willing to lend a hand I'm more than willing to accept it! I don't expect to compete online at the highest level but I much rather playing someone real than the computer.

Alright so I need two teams then? So far I've been playing with a 4-4-1-1 formation because that's what allows me the most chemistry with my current team, but I'm not sure what works best in this game.

I'd say play some regular head to head seasons and find a formation that works for you from:

433, 41212, 4222, 4231 - they're the most solid and balanced formations for FUT. After you make your mind up, I'll make you something.

Also I should point out it's not a case of if you start now you'll never catch up, it's that doing so takes a lot of effort and I was kinda aware of your situation. There are plenty of people out there who are hardcore traders that make 100,000 coins and more profit per day. However, it's hard work and right now it's harder than ever as the market is at an all time low due to the imminent release of Team of the Season cards which will cause the market to crash hugely due to people buying lots of packs in the hope of pulling a ToTS card.

I think the only reason I like ut still is that I got fifa on pre release so was getting 2 free packs a week for months and used those to trade up to the team's I wanted so like les I've got 2 teams I rotate, one comprised of Spanish players and one of Newcastle players with a few arsenal ones in the mix.

It's even worse than that. They start UT before the game comes out, and previous UT members are allowed in. If you're new you're NOT allowed in, so those that know the system and how to exploit it get to do all their fiddling before normals come in. It's an absolute farce and nothing but a pure money making scam. Stay the fuck away from UT.

How FIFA gets high review scores I'll never know. It's like the reviewers never touch 3/4 of the game and never once glance at what the AI players are doing (or, more pointedly, completely going spaz when you need them to just you know, do simple things like:
- stay onside
- stay goalside when marking
- jumping for a ball in the air
- not running away from danger
- not stop running after that attacker that's through on goal
- not pass to a player in the opposite direction you told it to

etc.)

It's a good game for playing with friends, other than that it's a mess. 13 is much, much worse than 12. The gameplay plays better but everything else around it is incredibly shoddy and barely works.

My old computer died, I installed FIFA on the new one etc etc. All was good. Until I plugged in my gamepad. It needs a driver, which I no longer have. I need help badly! It is a Gameware controller pad I think they call it. Been looking for drivers all morning, but it seems impossible to find the right one. Any help guys?

Looks like this if that helps at all

It uses same driver as xbox360 controllers, so thanks to Microsoft for that.

I am fairly sure you can find drivers on the manufacturers website. If not then there are plenty of driver sites about.

I bought it at release and I havent even played it yet.

Eksdee; what are the tactics that high ranking people exploit? Repeated lofted through balls or what?

Mostly playing ultra defensive + counter attack from the D pad controls, + custom tactics for 100% pressure and aggression and they just wait for you to push into their half, swarm you and smash an over the top ball to a 90 pace striker. :p

yeah I pick up on that style of play pretty quickly and just sit back and piss about passing from left to right and stuff until they actually start to commit a bit more.

just missed 2 sodding penalties in a match that I eventually drew 1-1 DOH!!!

I usually try and get a goal then if i'm leading by half time switch to counter attacking+ attack up one on the D pad and get so much room for my wide men 2nd half as they over commit trying to get back into the game.

Have to say I'm having a whale of a time on UT after making a new account. Went straight to D1 and on my fourth season in D1 now and still haven't lost. Made 100k from it. :p

nice. id say im a mid table div 1 player tbh, I can get there but then it gets a bit tough against some opponents :) Although I think my win-loss ratio would be a lot better if I didn't play when my daughter is watching streams of one piece episodes upstairs or when im drunk and I just sit and shout at the players a lot for not doing what theyre supposed to

What do people play on? I've got it on the PS3 but the loading times infuriate me so much I might get the PC version.

You have an old PS3? My mate has the brick PS3 and it takes ages, on a slimline loading is minimal.

Mine is slim, maybe I haven't installed the data to the HDD though. Still it takes the piss, starting the game to getting to the menu takes several minutes.
