Back at the gym.

Attempting 45 reps of deadlifts probably wasn't the smartest way to start! (3x15)

I'm sore. All over. I've not felt DOMS training my back this bad since.. Well.. Never. :|

I think.. I might keep deadlifts/squats at 5x5 and anything else at the 12 rep range.

Sigh. 6-7 months of training out the window gone. (Though, never tried a high rep routine before!)

Might start a log!

I've had a bit of a big mileage week. Well, as the bright burny thing is out, it would be rude not to.

Monday - rest
Tuesday - horrid weather so 20 miles on the bike and a 4 mile run
Wednesday - 100 miles
Thursday - 54 miles
Friday - 109 miles
Saturday - 4 mile run

And tomorrow, since the Snake Pass is shut between Glossop and Ladybower, I'm off up there for a bit. If I feel up to it, I'll give Winnats Pass another try (google image it, trust me).

In a few weeks I want to start doing 150 mile rides. My legs are almost ready for it.

I was going for 150 miles but I didn't expect the number of hills I encountered around Staffordshire to be so high.

Yeah. The bottom end of the peaks/dales just falls off sharply...

Well it was basically "climb a short, sharp hill". No problem, except every time I got to the top, a sign saying "14%" or similar presented itself. Then I'd get to the bottom of that, only to go straight back up again. And down. Etc. It started to get a bit annoying, I just wanted a 5 mile flat section to enjoy in the warm sun :)

I'm going biking in the hot sun for about 20km. at the end there is a 22% grade mountain of gyros meat. I will eat my way through to then fall face first in to a lake of gin and tonic :D

Put a couple of miles in on the road bike. Weather and bike were awesome. In fact, the bike is a very nice ride indeed. I'm very weak though...have to train up. Any kind of extra bonus slope to my climbs, you know when you go from a steady 3 or 4% incline to an 8 or 10% to crest, just wrecks me completely.

I've got Tough Mudder next weekend. Just done a 10 mile trail run. Was hard work.

10 mins into my mtb ride today, I put the bike in to a left hand turn speed turn around a tree as the path did an S curve in to a drop. Directly behind the tree someone had kindly placed a bit of log, which I promptly clipped with my right foot as that pedal was "down" for the hard left turn. Clipping the log spun me off the bike. I was fully committed into the left turn, so I pranged hard. I've cracked a rib, and I have some very blue and swollen toes on my right foot to the extent that I can barely walk. Meh.

You're one of the least lucky riders on the planet methinks. Did you go to hospital?

not yet. I'm hoping my bruised toes will turn out to just be that. It hurts a bit but not enough to trigger my *doctor* reflexes. also, ribs, meh. I was much more worried falling on my left shoulder, which was the one with the plates in (until January). That said, my shoulder is scraped a bit, but otherwise fine. There's a thing with a rib high on the left side of my chest, and ofc my right foot.

Funny you mention luck. My hard-core mate was also talking about luck this afternoon. He's very risky in his riding style, whereas I ride fairly defensively. He's never had a serious fall, ever. Me, well, I've had a few, pfff.

I am working my way up to 200 mile rides. Truth be told I could do one now (well, not today) but certain tendons in my legs become sore after 100 miles, so I just need to keep plugging away to ensure I can do the distance without injury.

I want to do something like get a train to London very early one morning, and spend the rest of the day riding back to Manchester.

Ouch. Not strapping it to another one?

Nothing is usually done with toes I thought?

the orto doc says: "don't faff about with it". tbh toes usually get left alone to heal. the only advice I took home was to wait till the swelling went down and then wear some sturdy boots for a while. I've got an MTB holiday coming up in 5 weeks, so we'll see how I do :)

also, I just spent 300 euros converting my 1x9 to a 1x10 setup. bought a shiny XTR rear mech on clearance (which I will prolly regret), a 10x XT shifterpod and a 10x XT rear cassette 11x36, which I certainly will not regret :D

Hopefully you won't be too bust up by then. Where you going?

I'm going to the French Jura to eat food, drink wine and faff about on the bike. I may even refit the 130mm fork for this :)
