I'm not sure I really understand the question?
It's showing that over eating is not always a product of greed etc. it can be a genetic flaw in that you don't produce enough leptin.

Scouse says a lot of the time if your fat it's easy to just not eat as much and do more exercise. I saying it's not that simple :)

WORK

It's the linchpin in everything.
Sure you should do stuff to counter what you eat. But if you can't stop your body craving food because of a malfunction in your make up there's no way you could work off what your body craves.

Actually it says:
In obesity, a decreased sensitivity to leptin occurs, resulting in an inability to detect satiety despite high energy stores

i.e. once you become fat your body stops telling you that you're full and you shouldn't eat so much - because your sensitivity to leptin becomes decreased. That's a function of obesity, not genetics.

Eat less. Exercise more. It's the *only* way to lose weight. Control your calorie intake and no matter how hungry you are don't eat more than you should.

Easy? Not initially - but it becomes so over time. Moan if you like - there is no other answer. Period.

Edit:

Just because your body craves it doesn't mean you should eat it. Control your cravings. Self discipline. It gets easier with time.

It can be congenital as well though.

What Scouse has described happened to me. Lost 7st and stopped being hungry all the time. Obviously this happened before I was at my target weight.

Self discipline and work. Job done

Surely not cold after a few miles in.

You'd be surprised. My regular daily ride is 45 miles but I've found it very, very difficult to keep doing that over the last month. The cold slowly eats into you and 3 hours later you're left feeling pretty damn miserable.

Anyway, today I entered the Manchester Marathon.

Best bit is that it goes past my street :)

Yeah. In a world of 7 billion people there's bound to be a few cases. Doesn't make what I said wrong.
No not wrong for some but there's enough of a chance that someone would have something they can't help for you to tone down the retoric and be a little sympathetic.

No not really. The chance is practially zero. If I met ten thousand people who were complaining about "not being able to lose weight" and I said "eat less, exercise more - it gets easier the longer you do it for" I would not only not meet one of these people I'd also be correct and plainly honest.

If "eat less and exercise more" is "rhetoric" to them then they're simply people who can't face up to plainly - but not harshly or cruelly - stated reality.

Edit: Even if I did unfortunately meet one of these one-in-multiples-of-millions rarities - the advice "eat less and exercise more" is still the correct advice. Shitty that they're always going to feel hungry for the rest of their lives - but they can either be fat and feel hungry or slim and feel hungry.

They can pick one.

Your so caring.

Same with people who have skin cancer? Shame but you chose to have a tan?

Freedom of speech, but not freedom of action?

What should I say to them?

Should I outright lie and say "sorry you're fat. There's nothing you can do about it"?

What, exactly, should I say, other than the objective truth?

@Moriath I'm sorry but dishonesty to protect their feelings is the worse thing you can do. I know from first hand experience.

Brutal honesty is sometimes the only language they'll understand.

If someone who has skin cancer admitted to me that it was through their use of sunbeds or tanning outside, and shrugged their shoulders as if to say "it's one of those things, nothing you can do", I'd call them a daft cunt.

My mother is fond of saying There were no fat people in concentration/pow camps.

Changing topic slightly. I've just been on the treadmill (slowly) for 15 minutes. As much as I dare do after 2 weeks of being ill.

Any good ideas on what to take/do to improve my energy levels. I feel knocked out. Am going to try and play tennis tomorrow if I can drag myself out of bed early enough.

Berocca / Any all-in-one vitamin tablet you can drink. I take it when I'm crap and it does help. Caffeine too.

I disagree on the berocca tbh. It's a bit like red bull in that it can pep you up - but the %RDA of stuff you're taking is bad for you - which is why you piss most of it out - your kidneys want to get rid of it quick.

Just keep exercising. You'll eventually feel better. How was the tennis?

Good. I managed a set. Made me feel human. Have been on treadmill for 30" today. Am aiming for a full routine on Monday.
