Looks pretty ace teedlar. That actually your bike?

Nah chumlar, tis the fatbike I was talking about. Its a Genesis BIkes Caribou and tbh I was surprisingly pleased with it, although it is not for me. Genesis rightly has it classed as an "adventure / expedition" bike. It sits like a tractor and goes over anything in it's path. I like manuverable, chuckable, twitchy bikes and this thing was nothing of the sort: it just progressed calmly and got on with riding the trail (which as you could see in the pic was absolute snow chaos).

Jury's still out on me getting a fatbike tbh. Kona has one that has a much more "mountainbike" geometry than the Genesis, and there is ofc always Surly. Salsa have a couple very expensive fatties with front and front/rear sus, and On-One ofc. They're much more popular in the US, but hey ho markets and all that.

I can't imagine that anything with that size of tyre could ever be classed as twitchy @TdC. Tractor sounds like an apt description though I've never ridden one.

I don't get the point of full-sus fatties. You run about 4psi anyway so all the suspension's in the tyres. But I didn't know On-One did one. Their Barnsley shop is about ten minutes drive from where I work so I may give one a little blast this week if they're not dicks about it (they were last time I wanted to try one of their bikes for ten minutes )

hmm, they are/were extremely helpful in contact via the web chum. tbh I'd give sweet slobbery mouthsecks to be able to demo the fun fatty (24"!!) or the fatty from them.

They've the worst shop staff I've ever met tbh. My missus would have had an On-One 45650b for her birthday last year if I could have gotten any of them to take the slightest bit of interest (although she's well pleased with her Canyon). It's a "feature" of their shops according to a bloke at work who has two of their bikes.

I'll have a go if I can get away from the office this week and let you know what I think :)

Funny that, but you strike a chord: my LBS is run by a fairly special lad. He's not the smooth salesman in any way shape or form. Last year I was practically begging him to sell me a specific Genesis road bike (not really fucking around at something like 2.5K euros) and he never did. On the other hand, if I want to ride a fatty that he knows I'll never buy...I basically have to beg him to take it back. I can walk in the store, and he'll just ignore me completely until I talk to him (tbh the way I want it, I mean I really hate getting jumped by eager-beaver shop persons), but still, if you're looking for sales service, his is not the place to go.

Haven't read this thread, but as prep for Tough Mudder this year, I've thrown in a session of TRX per week.

Fuck me sideways. Killed me.

3x12 routine I'm trying (Everything but deadlifts) has broken me. Stuff gets heavy fast.

OK you weight-building-lifty weirdo types. I could do with some help and advice :)

I can no longer ignore the fact that whilst my legs are great the rest of my body is a bit stringy and shit. Not because I give a shit about looking good (my personality is so amazing that simply walking past ladies in the street without even looking at them causes their vajayjays to sploosh so hard canoe clubs often turn up to ride the fishy waves) - but because with all the mountain biking I do a little extra strength will help with back pain and make carrying my bike up unrideable obstacles a bit easier.

I could do with advise on a workout regime that I could do in 30-45 minutes, three times a week, that focusses heavily on core strength first and torso/arms/shoulders etc. second.

If it could also ensure that I do a bit of work on rotator cuff stuff I'd appreciate it - I'll be taking kayaking up (on more than vajayjay fluid) again this spring and one of the biggest problems you get with it is rotator cuff injures. But mainly core and toning for the rest of me.

If you're bored at work make this plan as detailed as you can. I know *nothing whatsoever* about lifting weights and what does good to what. I'm total n00b.

My advice is to get proper advice.

Spend some of your millions @Scouse , speak to a personal trainer about your requirements and get a proper plan :). Otherwise, you run the risk of an ePenis misleading you.

I wish that was even slightly true m8. Not got a penny to my name. Rectifying that at the moment tho.

I was thinking of getting some proper advice. I'm a member of the local council run gyms/swimming pools but I think everyone who works there is a little mongoloid. But still - I'm open to ideas from Freddies so at least if I do solicit the attentions of a qualified physio then I'll have ideas of my own :)[/QUOTE]

I second what Big G says and know nothing about exercise myself but you could give the workouts on Neila Rey a look.

Compound movements. Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press to name a few.

www.bodybuilding.com will give you any guide to any exercise you need, it'll also give you workout plans.

I also find that 'Buff Dudes' on YouTube give some really good exercises for each area and they go over full technique etc.

Interesting, thanks, but I after reading a bit I think I'm going to go with simple bodyweight exercises as much as possible.

I never liked the idea of going to a gym and lifting weights anyway and I have no body shape targets in mind (and I'm certainly not interested in nutrition other than eating healthily and nutritiously in the correct amounts for weight loss and weight stability - no protein to the max for muscle build for me).

I'd take up swimming. I intend to start later this year. For now, I'm quite surprised at how much of a workout jogging/running gives my arms. I didn't realise that holding my arms in the typical running position required so much effort. When I get back from each run, the veins in my arms look like fat worms. I'll try and take a pic later so you can see what I mean (there won't be any nudity @Trem sorry).

I used to work out in a gym many years ago, but to be honest I found it very boring. Gyms are also smelly places.

By the way, I find running to be absolutely excellent for my back and overall posture. It's very comfortable running with a straight back, the exercise kind of forces you to do it without realising.

I'd love to but every single swimming pool around Nottingham is setup for women's classes in the evenings. It's a fucking disgrace how much that sort of exercise (and all the classes - which'd give me motiviation to actually do the exercises) are setup for women *only*.

Can't get to a pool and be actually allowed to swim because, women, any evening.

As for the jogging - had a more or less complete ankle rebuild a few years back and they don't react well to running sports. I'm going to try to lose more weight on the bike (if I can get down to 12.5 stone at 6'3") - then see if my ankles'll take light jogging in some decent professionally fitted trainers.

But I still need to do weight bearing on my upper body either way.

Only slightly larger than average muscles but solid as a rock after an hour of running, so I reckon they're getting a decent workout. A better workout than when I'm cycling, that is.

As for the womens' classes, are they exclusively women? Sounds like they'd be breaking the law.

Lol. I get "fat hands" when hiking. My fingers actually swell up - I think it's simply lots of movement with my arms low and blood rushing in there. Can see similar for running but of course you have to keep your arms up and counteract the gravity and momentum at each step so they definitely have to do more.

As for the gym - lots of women-only swim classes. The other classes aren't exclusively women but are clearly geared towards them. Men, I think, are simply expected to do a martial art or pump iron...

I second this. Went out for a long run once when I had a shoulder injury, thinking I'd be giving them a break. By the end of it my shoulders were cramping up in agony...

I loved the after run look, always looked like I'd dropped about 5% of my body fat within 30 minutes running.

Went Go Karting for 2 hours yesterday, 3 heats, 2 semis and a final. Now THAT is a work out, I can barely move today. Sadly only came 5th overall after arriving at the scene of someone else's accident, enormous fun however.

If it was cheaper that would by my workout plan sorted. Karts are much more fun going sideways than a bike is :)

Love Karting. Big fan. Wish it was cheaper too.

Of course, I go much faster no I've lost the weight and I no longer feel any pain after enduro races ;)

Oh I'm all about the pain right now. Shoulders are completely fucked and have a massive bruise/lump on my back where the seat was. It was one of those double decker tracks, pretty sure I was getting air every time on the way back down.

So worth it though :)

Went go karting for the first time two weeks ago, absolutely loved it! My car felt more like a go kart afterwards, the steering in those things is so bloody heavy.

Went to the Peaks this weekend as I wanted to have some fun in the heavy snow. MTBing was a bit of a mare on the saturday (snow was way too deep in most places so it was practically impassable on bike (although your moonbike would have prolly done the trick @TdC)). Stopped in a BnB and went on a ten mile hike instead today. Legs are really feeling it because most of that was trudging through fucking deep snow.

Was ace :D
