Windows Firewall kicked and router configured, problem gone.

Windows Firewall does not automatically realise we want to play this game.

Defo looks like BT got problems with quite a few of you guys...

Try the proxy in the my earlier post and see that allows you to play, if so yup its BT fault. :)

Don't really know your exact router setup layout, but I'll give it a stab:

Somewhere in the router setup, there should be a menu called 'Port Forwarding' or something similar, you should refer to the router manual for the exact location. Anywhere, in here, you can specify which ports (or port range) should be forwarded (opened). If there's an option for 'Protocol' just leave it at 'both' or 'default'.

Keep in mind though, that this is not a 100% working solution to the problem, as reports in this thread has shown that it could possibly be caused by routing issues by your ISP or other stuff that's "out of reach" of fixing just like that.

same problem

except my son who logged in earlier today is playing fine on his PC
no lag no problems (except queues ofc)

now after registering the CE key I cant get on
doubt it's related? because i registered the key before i tried to log on

playing HS yesterday no problem and the pc hasn't been on since

isp BT but since there's nothing wrong on another account running through the same router I doubt it's our end that the issue lies

The problem seems to be happen when the server list try's to load, so if your already ingame there won't be a problem unless for whatever reason you go back to the server selection screen, I think:D

I can log in now, so I don't know what the problem was, maybe too many people trying to log in at the same time?
Anyone still not able to log in?

Hi again Magnus. My ISP still hasnt been able to sort this problem out. I would ask that you/Mythic consider the following:

I would think Mythic can fix this issue fairly easily by doing two things:

1. Authenticate, THEN download the server list. At the moment, its all done on the one connection, the authentication messages happen, then the client asks for the server list. Make the client NOT bail with an auth error just because the server list could not be download, the authentication has already taken place. Then at least we can get to the server screen where it will keep trying to get the server list (and occasionally succeed).

2. Making the server list download less fussy about slow connections in the first place, although in my case the TCP connection appears to break completely (gets stuck in a loop ACKing and Retransmitting) so this may be outside of Mythics control.

If Mythic implement suggestion 1, it will give us a better chance of making it into game.

same problem

If I login at 9am before traffic shaping kicks in, or before capacity is such that there is no room for the WAR connection, I can stay in all day long no problems.

It just seems to be a problem with the 8040-8049 port range which is used to authenticate and retrieve the server list.

what can I say, a day has passed, I have just come in (had 3 beers so can barely type - could have stayed out for more!)

and still can't log in, got round the critical error bit, now just stuck on server select screen, simply will not join any servers.

It tries for 10 seconds, then just does not join. I retry - by double clicking1 or click on a server then click SELECT - still no conecto

effing b00 I say, I am desperate to play and simple can not for 2 days, plus I got up at 5 for work today commuted forever, had 3 beers and sacrificed not staying out to come home TONIGHT and play, now make it happen mr GOA

Mehuge, you need to try loggin in with a mate's account/loggin, see what happens. I got passed my critical error with that, but now my bro and I are both stuck on server select screen.

thing is there are not that many posts about it, plus all servers look full, so this problem is simply never going to be fixed so we are f*cked!

I am goign to try everything I can think of, will keep you posted.

Going to try a different router if I can find one, maybe uninstall re-install. B00!

lol Fayt-tDA that is so funny that you know where I live lol, who were you in DAOC? :)

anyways, I don't quite live there, I am in Greenwich.

I just tested that both my bro and I can log into the same account and get to server select screen at the same time, maybe WAR thinks we are already in.

I say reboot the login servers Oo or reboot something eek!

First time poster here, but its the only place I could find with so much data on this problem.

I bought the game yesterday, left the patch d/l overnight, up at 4.00am this morning and played until I had to go to work at 7.00am. My son (the out of work lazy oik) played on my PC during the day and finished playing at about 5.00pm.

I go to log in and get the exact issue all you guys are having. I get as far as the "do you agree to the boring conditions" bit you have to click, then it just seems to freeze - but I get the music okay and the pointer moves fine.

If I alt+tab to desktop I get the failed message. My ISP is BT too. In my previous experience they're a bunch of ignorants who know best all the time so there will be no joy calling them. I tried a lot of the fixes listed here and still I get the "authentication failed".

Please dont tell me this is going to be another game that goes the same way as AOC. I got all hyped up for that too and any more of this and I will just go back to minesweeper or something.

Sorry for my first post being such a bad one :(

Anyone got a step by step guide on how to get Proxifier to work with Warhammer?

Follow this: Your Freedom: Proxifier its a step by step guide.

Since i spoke to my ISP i havn't had any further problems and am able to get into the game, no more in game lag either. Peeps over at Plusnet also seem to be sorted.

Really would suggest trying the Proxifier and see where the fault is. For me the Proxifier worked and could only lead me to suspect my ISP was the problem.

I followed those proxifier instructions, but when I check/test my proxy settings it fails to connect, can't seem to get it working using their examples.

I too am on BT
