Asylum Seekers; Yay or Nay?

Should we be a lot more lenient on asylum seekers from the Middle East?

It's not about individuals doing things as I've said before its about the government who is meant to represent us to actually do something
Its a group of people who say they will do what we want when they get elected. Doesnt mean they will the next five years. You will learn when you get older. They do whats popular at the time rinse and repeat. It reallyis quite boring

Based on the assumption that the majority actually want what you want, which gets even harder if you consider the current governments core supporters.

The reality is that these migrants/refugees will simply start more large ghettos in the countries they move to, unable to cope with the culture shock.

It's hardly a reason to stop them coming, but a real consequence, we have every chance of bringing their war to us, while the rich arab states do nothing.

It's a frickin nightmare, maybe we should let them all here and we should all move to the middle east and sort it out, they would no doubt all calm down out of the heat.

I have not seen or heard anything from the media about that little boys parents and how they are ultimately to blame for his death.

We can safely slag the McCann's (as I do) off because they are white British middle class I guess.

Probably because the McCanns left their kid on a jolly whilst these guys were taking a desparate calculated risk in an attemp to flee persecution and possibly death.

No they weren't.

They were safe and they were trying to get to Canada where the fathers sister is a hairdresser.

Edit - she says she applied for one of her brothers, not clear if it was the father, anyway she says she sent an application to the Canadian authorities for asylum which was denied. Canada say no such application was made.

would you have preferred to leave them on the border?

that aside, whichever way you spin anything there are going to be people who profit from bad situations in all kinds of ways. tbh I think your average refugee would vastly prefer a chance today over a chance tomorrow, or no chance at all.

I think that altruism only exists at the level of the individual. that's partially why I made my comment about spin.

I had to watch him sobbing to see if it was real...part of me suspected he might have bumped them off for a new life in Canada, which he will surely get now.

This is doing the rounds on FB, I like it because it helps my brain see where the countries are and where Syria is in respect to those countries, not overly interested in the big blue BENEFITS label but it does drive home the point of how many countries they go through to get to *safety* doesn't it?

Benefits are better than the UK in France, Italy and Spain. And as for "no war", well I'd take issue with Turkey, The Caucasus, and Ukraine for a start. The Balkan countries won't let them stay, and the Eastern European EU countries won't let them stay unless they don't work (if then). Ditto Turkey. What would you do? Sit in a camp for the rest of your life, or try to get somewhere where you can work and have a life?

Facebook is full of cunts anyway.

But its about safety? Not work. They get safe, their country gets safe eventually then they go home?

Am I missing something here? I would escape in a rusty Lada not wait for a Rolls Royce.

nice pic. I'm sure whoever made that had the best humanitarian intentions at heart and totally wasn't being a cunt. meanwhile, in the real world, UNHCR said:

some dude who knows a lot more about the real situation than we do said:
over 3 million have fled to Syria's immediate neighbours Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. 6.5 million are internally displaced within Syria. Meanwhile, under 150,000 Syrians have declared asylum in the European Union

also, the UNHCR published a paper that contains, amongst other things, this totes not relevant graph:

destinations.png

I'd say that about 140K people are in the "benefits" zone, basically because of Germany's humanitarian policies, whereas about 144K is somewhere else (Q1/Q2 2014). Source: http://www.unhcr.org/54aa91d89.html

No, whoever made that pic is most likely a BNP member or similar.

I am aware of that and I did check for any branding before posting it on here, if I had any skills I could of paint shopped stuff out, but I don't and people here are smart enough to not build a cross and light it just from that picture.

I just like visual stuff and I'm sure others will appreciate the map if they are as gormless as me :(

Frankly, I'd expect a vast majority of the people that travel further into Europe already know people in these countries.

There's still a lot of Syrians in the immediate countries around Syria, and they also target Britain and Germany - because we've both, historically got a large amount of migrants, so you'd rather go to a country where your cousins mother in laws son lives than a random country where you'll probably be sleeping with one eye open.

I don't even get this whole 'Benefits' thing - Asylum seekers can't claim? :S

no worries Trem, I still love you despite your tiny peen and smelly feet :) I made a new pic that you may enjoy. I believe it puts things in a slightly better perspective. I did it really fast so it's not very pretty :(

I'm so proud that we are with Germany and the Scandinavian countries which people want to go to, as we have a reputation for a country which cares about people.

Why are people ashamed of this. :/

Why are parts of Sweden and other areas apparently not a part of Europe?

A lot of people wouldn't mind someone commenting on how great their house is, doesn't mean they want that person to move in with them.

Funny how Aliens can move planets from place to place without anyone noticing.

Once they're safe they then have to eat and have somewhere to live. If you're not allowed to work, and don't get benefits, then would you rather they all turned to robbing and stealing to live instead?

Fuck no. They go where they won't get maltreated, where they get helped and where they can get jobs and provide for their families.

I don't think there's a single thing about any of that to which I can't say "fair enough - I'd do exactly the same myself - and they're just as human as me, so they deserve it".
