Your was a general your. People in scandi get paid more for similar jobs to take account for the cost of living being expensive.
Nope and please Scandinavia is not the UK... Countries are very different.... However

Ave net salaries in the UK and Sweden are similar but cost of living is higher in the UK..... Quality of life however is sipremely higher in Sweden :) as it also was in NL.

I also know @Yoni worked her tits off to learn the language.

You know, another thing that shouldn't be taken for granted.

Learning the language in Sweden is easy as it is free for everyone...

Average salaries. But there are more wealthy bankers etc than there are in sweden. You dont have as many high paying big corporations as we do in the uk. Which in my opinion inflates the average uk wage.

Presumably in Sweden/Norway you can only make money selling torches for 6 months out of the year.

We can look at official homeless figures, that I posted. Then add on that the ones we don't know about plus any illegal immigrants living on the streets. To say half of the official homeless could probably get a roof over there head is the same as me saying half the refugees could probably find a cozy safe place straight away and besides it isn't like there isn't enough charities for them is it?

Going too far the other way with the reasoning on that one in my opinion.

Knew I should of stayed out of this thread.

No it isn't the same at all. Half the people living rough are doing so because they prefer to. There are homeless shelters for pretty much everyone, but you can't bring in booze, you can't bring in drugs, so some people stay outside, especially in the summer. The simple reality is we're talking about millions of people displaced compared to a relatively small number of homeless in the UK. FWIW the UK and most of the rest of the EU doesn't have a homelessness problem, doesn't have a basic survival problem. It has a much bigger problem with general poverty, and yes, there is an argument to say money spent on migrants could be better spent solving wealth inequality, but that's an issue to be addressed at the ballot box, this is a right here, right now issue.

I see no one took to answering my question. Not that I'm shocked because frankly, Germany are causing just as many issues rolling out the red carpet, as we are by not letting any in.

Like it or not, this is not a UK or a German, or even a European issue - it's global, and we need a global response. The UN, US, everybody needs to get involved. We need to be setting up camps in a safe place near where the refugees are leaving, process them there, then distribute evenly. Everyone needs to take their fair share, but they also need to know who they're taking on.

Economic migrants can go through the proper channels - apply through the Embassy, and if they have skills we need, welcome to Britain.

Then once that is in place, take the Aussie approach to those moving illegally.

Can't say I can see any other way of sorting this out that doesn't involve pissing off half the EU population (trust me the Germans are not all as keen as Merkel and Bayern Munich).

I don't think most people would disagree with that, but no one can agree on the definition of "fair".

A Ukip candidate is allready in trouble for pointing out in a rather unsympathetic way that the family risked their live queue jumping for the good life in Canada.

Outrage ensues...oh they weren't from Syria?
Well those camps are nasty...pictures of well fed and clothed family..
Well Turkey are horrible to Syrians...Londeners don't like scousers, but I'm not about to set sail for the Isle of Man in a bath tub.

Yes, it's fucking tragic, but before everyone starts throwing around "the UK do fuck all for these immigrants", they also do fuck all for a lot of other people that need it.
That's an argument to do more for both - not to not bother with migrants because we don't bother with other homeless people...

Which is why we have such a cost imbalance with our gdp

I think Scouse is thinking on the lines of the NHS was setup to stop people from dropping out of work for long periods of time - after WW2, everyone was feeling a bit commie, so how do you nail two birds with one stone? - Do a massive socialist move which also benefits the employers.

How is our Government helping Asylum seekers and Homeless people? - Apart from throwing money at dictators, it's all charities.

Swedes pay more tax.

pay less tax, live in country with lower quality of life // pay more tax, live in country with higher quality of life.

ooh, I dunno man. I suppose if being able to spend the difference of taxes paid would result in me feeling awesome all the time I guess I could live in a shithole. I mean, it's only my life, right?

It wasn't a comment on which was right or better but a statement regarding the prior disagreement regarding who pays more.

Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett has told BBC Radio 5 live that Britain should take in about a quarter of a million migrants.

"There's probably up to two million refugees who are looking to resettle. If you look at Britain's fair share of that... we're looking at potentially up to 240,000 people.

"Sounds like a very large number when you say it, but that's one refugee for every 266 Britons and a 0.4% increase in our population."

Fuck, I've never agreed with a single word that's come out of that woman's mouth, but she's about right numbers wise.
The Hungarian Prime Minister pulls no punches in his speech, Europe is storing up a disaster by encouraging Muslims to enter the EU.

There will be millions across Europe quietly nodding to words.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ngary-pm-victor-orban-europe-response-madness

This would be the same Hungary that had over 200,000 of its citizens flee tin 1956 to the welcoming arms of The West? That Hungary? But hey, its OK, they were all white folks.

Far too many imo, we will be as bad as Germany for encouraging even more people to risk the crossing. It might make people feel all warm and fluffy inside, but it won't do anything to stop the problem from continuing. I would personally feel a lot warmer and a lot fluffier if we processed all the Refugees in Turkey etc so they didn't have to even consider making the crossing - then either keep them safe, fed and watered there whilst we sorted out Syria (someone has to grasp the nettle, and I'm a bit concerned Dave is on holiday and Barry is more concerned about fucking polar bears these days), or if that was going to take a lot longer home them in Europe, US etc

And if they're economic migrants rather than refugees (the ones I mentioned who were leacing Turkey because the wages were too low, or the bloke fleeing Morocco), they can apply through the embassies as usual.

Oh and give Saudi, UAE etc a nudge and ask them how many they've taken.

All valid, but you have to put each task into its likelihood of success, with ending the war in Syria at the least likely end. There's an article here that includes all your solutions and several more.

The media never lies, trust me.

https://vid.me/nHCc/bbc-lying-about-hungarian-police-as-an-immigrant

Edit - What are peoples thoughts on this as well -

Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich Gulf nations have enough money and resource to house all the refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

Yet the western countries in Europe get criticized for not 'doing enough', while the Islamic nations do nothing.

It is ironic how Muslims rush to Saudi Arabia when they need religion but when they need Human Rights, they rush to the west.

It was from an Indian site/forum so that is why the Muslim comment is there but why are the states in the region not getting involved or getting blasted for doing nothing? Why is the USA not getting shit for doing nothing?

To be fair, listening to his commentary it was clear it was second-hand information he was reporting. Not really a lie, but an innacuracy.

I wonder what was going through that blokes head? Looking at that I'm not even sure he meant to fall over. Looked like he was grabbing her to take her somewhere else 'cause she was upset and then they tripped and fell - then he covered her and the baby with his body as the police came forward...

I dunno.

He pulled her down mate, 100% he pulled her on to the tracks. Watch it again.

Because Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states are run by awful, awful people? And always have been? This isn't new news, I posted this back in 2006(!) pointing out the Gulf states had the means to help the Palestinians as well, but they don't lift a finger for their Islamic brothers. Far better to secretly fund ISIS and spend obscene amounts of money on football clubs than actually use their wealth to help their fellow man.

Meh. Watched it five or six times. It wasn't deliberate. But I ain't gonna frame-by-frame it ;)

Edit: Just watched it again. He's an angry man who's pissed off that his wife is upset and tries to get her out of there quickly and a little bit roughly. They trip (she hits a camera or something). He tries to support her weight but cant. The cops come forward and he puts his body between them whilst screaming at them to back off (I presume).

I'm sure of that now.

Can't be an easy situation - surrounded by riot-clad cops and faced with a stack of reporters whilst fleeing a chemical-weapons warzone with your family. You're not getting caught at the best of times, eh?

But why is there no uproar about it or the USA? Why is it totally falling on the EU to sort it out? Why is Russia doing nothing (or are they?).

I don't get it, there is no balance.

Totally disagree. Let's see what others think, maybe it's your eye/brain thing and maybe it's mine ;)
