Amazon or Play

What do you choose for your DVD's?

I have been using Amazon for ages now and have never had any problems with them, but I have also used Play recently. My mate said he would never use anything else other than play.

Whats your choice?

Amazon is always perfect for me. I've not got anything against Play..I've never actually used it, but Amazon is so great I don't think its worth changing.

I'll quite happily use both, though i tend to buy from play and cd-wow since they can be cheaper and the bonus of paying no delivery fees is too tempting.

I'm not particularly arsed if they takes a coupla more days to arrives, i'm buying them for keeps, right?

Always prefer Play over Amazon, cheap as chips, may take a bit longer for things to arrive but the customer service is excellent

I looked at both for some recent DVD's I bought, and Amazon were cheaper. Other than that, I'll happily use either.

I used to be a fully fledged Play fanboy, but then I saw that the Alias Season 1 box set was 40 quid from there and 20 from Amazon. So now I'll just check both for prices.

I've used both extensively - Atm Amazon tend to be slightly cheaper than Play and as long as you order more than £25 there's no delivery charge either and they tend to deliver quicker than the 3-5 days they say to allow (which is about what Play take to deliver).

Customer service from both has been generally good.

I use Play almost all the time as their delivery times seem a bit more reliable. I've had a couple of delays with Amazon lately, could be the mail though.

Yes, charging you for sending you the wrong products - which they manage to do a little too regularly ("I ordered Eddie Izzard - Circle, you sent me Ever Decreasing Circles!") is excellent service.

I know they refund it back later but that's not really the point. You can't just lob it in a post box either - you have to stand in queue behind all the old biddies for half an hour and get proof of posting.

Oh also I find that since Amazon tend to send things in huge boxes they have to come via courier which gives less chance for the scavvy postmen to nick everything as I'm sure happened to me when about 5 deliveries from Play and 1 from Amazon went astray in 1 week

Couriers aren't perfect though <waits for replacement digital camera nicked by UPS>

Amazon user myself, they always ship next day (or same day) and it gets here day after. I also like the fact that if it's a big package and I'm not here they take it to the post office that's about 500m away instead of back to god knows where the delivery place for some of the couriers are.

cd-wow is great for finding some of those region 3 jap/chinese movies that are hard to get hold of from play/amazon (they don't do region 3/4 ).

The X-men 2 double disc dvd was £7.99 from there while it was still upwards of £15 on amazon & play (play had a bogof on but i didn't fancy buying 2 at the time).


Only thing about buying the region 3 discs sometimes (most(?)) is that the box art is in (Chinese/Japanese)/English dual language, but hey, cheap movie in English. Got both me Ju On: The Grudges from there for something under a tenner each. Bit harder to track down the tv movies, anyone know of a site selling asian movies (and not just the chop socky variety :x), found one called yesasia.com which seems to do the trick though the things i want are a little overpriced, which might be fair enough i suppose but meh, not paying some of those prices .

I had a problem with a game I ordered off them once, the item never turned up, they sent a replacement free of charge with no qualms.

Over the course of my account I must have ordered 50+ items from them and never received the wrong thing.

I have an account on both, and use them. As said by others, just go with which ever is cheapest. Never had a problem with either of them.
Recently Amazon seems to have come up cheaper more often (last 3 orders were from there).

I tend to go with Play, as they have been excellent for the 4 or so years I've been using them. Amazon are fine for textbooks, but a couple of CD's they've sent me have been lost in the post, and they don't do R1 DVD's without going to Amazon.com and fucking about with international shipping. Play + PlayUSA = teh win.

Granted, no international shipping cost from PlayUSA but do you get taxed when you use them? There are frequent warnings on the site now, ever since they seperated out the sections.

Ordered a bunch of stuff from them (at £17.99 each mind), haven't been taxed yet.
