I just bought a new screen. I wanted to go for the wiiiiiide panel, but after some thought I cancelled and bought a 4K / Gsync panel. It's great tbh.
Which one and can you game on it?

Investing in this thread.

if I run at 1080p (exactly a quarter of 4k) will it look OK with no interpolation? I don't see why not?

Does that make sense? I'm trying to future proof my panel choice, and I think a 4k panel might be the way to go longer term.

I'd been wondering about this too G as I would like to get a higher res monitor than my current 1920x1200 Dell.

Havng done a bit of digging I found this which suggests that it should work fine.

Yeah, 1080p on a 4k monitor looks fine. Scalers are much better these days.

this one: Acer Predator XB321HK Gaming Monitor Review

GSYNC range is 30-60. atm I'm a bit miffed: WOT has done an update where they have gone from DirectX 10 to 11. This update has given my SLI'd 970's the extra power to squeeze out another 20-30 FPS giving me about 75 in WOT in native rez. Eg in my most played game I'm not actually using the extended capabilities of the monitor. other than that, it's gorgeous. Great colours, 4K is le awesome. Downside was that the book gives you next to no info to set it up properly. I used Reddit and some of the tech sites to find out how it worked.

Awesome! Makes perfect sense given the precise quarter res at 1080p, means I can peg back to 1080p for more demanding games but utilise 4K for Lightroom and some 4K gaming.

Operation "spunk cash" is underway.

On the note of 4k, can anyone recommend a decent, reasonable priced 4k monitor?

This is why we don't pay attention to "leaked" benchmarks.

The performance matches the price in general.
Not really. You could buy the best part of 3 RX 480s for the cost of a GTX 1080. Also, the AMD card out-performs the R9-390X and will be about £50 cheaper. So, the performance very much does not match the price.

Need to see what prices are like once this 'founders edition' bollocks goes away.

Probably more cost effective to run 2x480s crossfire?

Edit: as in, get you get you close to 1080 for less cash.

Only problem with Crossfire is compatibility, very few games actually support it and other games run like shit using it. I was going to buy 2x 480's but I've read around a lot over the last week about Crossfire and it's something I'm not willing to take a risk on. I'll probably go for a 1070 and overclock it, overclocks to 1080 stock speeds apparently.

AMD have really pulled their finger out, driver-wise. They're much better with crossfire profiles now but there are some games that just plain won't support it (Doom for example).

Most people still prefer single over double, my point stands regarding price/performance.

I am keenly keeping an eye on the 1080 (ti). I like the fact that the card is outputting a large amount of performance at a very wall-socket friendly wattage. I'll wait, but if someone were to offer me a decent price for my 970's I'd likely say yes, even though they're currently driving my 4K screen perfectly well.

Yes but it doesn't have G-Sync that is needed for the Acer Predator XB321HK!

I can live with a single 1080GTX, though it will burn me that my bang-for-buck value is shite :-/

I am still happy with my Dell 2713H dual monitor setup. Is there much of a difference going to 4k when I am sat 12 inches from the screens?
